POSITION SUMMARY:

As a part of the Leadership Team, the Healthy Living Coordinator will provide extraordinary customer service, communications, and programming to current and prospective YMCA members. The HLC will develop program guidance to members/staff that will enable them to reach their full potential. They will build new relationships with members that move them along a continuum from a causal connection to a committed level through increased engagement. The HLC will also supervise/lead Healthy Living Coaches, Personal Training, Small Group Training, Group Fitness, Evidenced Based programs, Special Events and agree upon Wellness programming at the branch and beyond. 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  
  
MISSION DRIVEN: Upholds the Mission of the YMCA, and demonstrates behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature  
 
SUPERVISION: Actively leads, coaches and mentors a high-performing and engaging Healthy Living Department by example.  Ensures staff are achieving metric targets and producing meaningful qualitative results. Provides leadership in the daily operations and facility care of the branch. Communicates across departments to inspire member focused culture that results in increased member retention. 
  • Personal Trainers/HEAT Coaches: 3 PT Personal Trainers dedicated to results-oriented programming 
  • Group Exercise Instructor:22+ Group Exercise staff delivering fun, safe, effective group fitness classes 
 
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: 
  • Develops and manages the Membership operating budgets and meets or exceeds budget targets. 
  • Responsible for total annual revenue: $250,000 
  • Membership Units: 2000 (approximately 3800 members). 
VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT & ANNUAL CAMPAIGN:   
  • Help develop and implement ongoing volunteer & donor cultivation and stewardship practices  
  • Works closely with volunteers through various Ad Hock Committees & ongoing one-time volunteer opportunities 
SALES & MARKETING:  
  • Collaborates with membership to implement annual marketing plan to drive new member recruitment. Efforts to include: personal training, group exercise, small group training, Smart Start Appointments, corporate engagement, cross-promotion, tour follow-ups, etc. 
  • Collaborate with technical team to ensure website, social media and other mobile tools utilized to meet aggressive revenue goals. 
ENGAGEMENT & RETENTION: 
  • Develops and implements sustainable member engagement strategies with focus on increasing member retention. 
  • Actively lead Group Exercise Classes, Smart Start Appointments and Personal Training Daily.   
  • Assure Y Members are engaged in Smart Start orientations, Fitness Classes, and other Dynamics of the Healthy Living Department. 
  • Drives development of innovative and high-quality programs within the Healthy Living Department which supports branch and association mission, goals and strategies.   
  • Develops and cultivates strong relationships throughout the branch, association and community. 
FACILITY CARE: 
  • Provide courteous, prompt and sincere attention to members, guests, participants and staff. 
  • Provide Healthy Living Initiatives such as Smart Start Trainings, YFF, Orientations, and other member engagements initiatives. 
  • Ensure that the rules and policies of the Family YMCA of BHC are followed and enforced when necessary to provide a safe, secure environment 
  • Ensure that the facility is being monitored constantly – making rounds into every part of the facility on a 30-minute basis and assist members that need help. 
  • Ensure facilities are picked up, safe and free from clutter.  
  • Give exceptional tours when necessary – share the features of the YMCA and its offerings 
  • Ensure that TV’s, radio, schedules, posters, etc. are on, up to date, and appropriate 
  • Contact supervisor/maintenance/membership if there are building issues for repair. 
MEETINGS & COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Participates in weekly Leadership Meetings.  
  • Coordinates quarterly meetings for Wellness Staff.   
  • Participates in monthly Board meetings as needed. 
  • Serve on Wellness focused task forces as needed. 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate work experience in Fitness, Wellness, Healthy Living, or Exercise Science preferred. 
  • Nationally recognized certification in Personal Training, Wellness Coaching, Life Coaching 
  • Experience/Certification in leading Group Exercise or Small Group Training 
  • Previous management experience in recruitment, training, supervision of staff and volunteer groups. 
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, particularly evening. 
  • Teach a minimum of 1 class per day, Smart Start Orientations, PT, etc. 
  • Lead Healthy Living CIH Programs with appropriate training 
  • Hands-on approach with facilities, staffing and member interaction 
  • Ability to set standards for and model exceptional member service and build a culture of member involvement and engagement in all staff. 
  • A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work creatively and independently or as part of a team. 
  • Sound judgment and decision making as well as problem solving and interpersonal skills to relate to people of all socio-economic levels and diverse backgrounds. 
  • Ability to provide facility tours, travel locally to meetings and stand for many hours at a time.
