Job description

Job Summary:

The Grounds Maintenance/Laborer will perform various tasks associated with grounds maintenance outside of the buildings.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine cleanup, cutting, trimming, and edging of all grassed areas and lawns.
  • Performs maintenance of flowers, shrubs, tree beds, and replacement thereof.
  • Completes general leaf clean-up, tree pruning, tree removal, sod installation, seeding, fertilizing, liming, thatching, aerating, irrigation, erosion, watering, and back-filling.
  • Handles materials (e.g., loading, unloading, digging, hauling, hoisting, carrying, wrapping, mixing, pouring, spreading); washing and cleaning cars and trucks and department equipment; cleaning grounds, and other areas; and doing other general maintenance work, by hand or using common hand-tools and power equipment.
  • Provides routine maintenance and minor repairs to such ground structures as improved and unimproved roads, parking areas, sidewalks, fences, retaining walls, storm drainage ditches, window wells, and catch basis; heavy weather services (snow removal); refuse collection and disposal, and provide services necessary to cope with emergencies such as those resulting from accidents, natural disasters, breakdown of equipment, floods in
  • buildings from roof leaks, overflowed restroom fixtures, sinks, sprinkler systems, water pipes, and other utilities.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in good condition; plans and organizes assignments effectively.
  • Presents a professional, positive, and helpful attitude at all times when interacting with customers, co-workers, and supervision.
  • Maintains effective communication with management, employees, and customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain base access.
  • Submit to and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years within the past five years in commercial grounds maintenance.
