Greeting Card Designers are responsible for conceptualizing and creating artwork and messages for a variety of occasions, working both independently and as part of a creative team. Daily tasks often include brainstorming ideas, sketching or digitally designing card layouts, reviewing feedback from editors and marketing teams, and preparing final files for print or digital distribution. Collaboration with writers, illustrators, and product managers is common to ensure designs meet brand and market requirements. Meeting tight deadlines and adapting to seasonal trends are also regular aspects of the job, making time management and flexibility important. The role provides a creative and dynamic work environment where your designs directly impact consumer engagement and brand recognition.
To excel as a Greeting Card Designer, creativity, artistic ability, and a strong understanding of design principles are fundamental, often supported by a degree in graphic design or a related field. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) is typically required. Attention to detail, originality, and the ability to interpret emotional cues are valuable soft skills that make an individual stand out. These skills ensure the creation of visually appealing, emotionally resonant cards that connect with diverse audiences and boost marketability.
A Greeting Card job typically involves designing, writing, or editing messages and artwork for greeting cards. Depending on the role, you may be responsible for creating illustrations, crafting thoughtful or humorous sentiments, or overseeing the production process. Jobs in this field can be freelance, contract-based, or full-time positions within a greeting card company. Creativity and a strong understanding of emotions and occasions are key skills for success.

Our story began in Staten Island, NY in the summer of 1982. After many years in the greeting card business, Jack Gimbelman seized the opportunity to open his own business with his wife, Vickie. Jack ran the sales and purchasing functions, and Vickie managed the office. The company was small - only 5,000 sq. ft. and five employees, but Designer Greetings was passionate about its product, its customers and its employees. The year 2009 was remarkable and unprecedented. In the beginning of January, the company opened a permanent showroom at AmericasMart in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, to complement its headquarters' showroom in New Jersey; by month’s end, Designer Greetings had acquired two additional companies: Glitterwrap™, a manufacturer of high design gift bags and wrap, and Red Farm Studio©, long-recognized for its niche in the gift and stationery industry in nautical/coastal and paper products. Today, Designer Greetings remains a family-owned and operated company with Steven and Fern Gimbelman heading the operation as President and Co-President/Art Director, respectively, and Vickie Gimbelman as Co-Founder/Executive Director.
