How much do greenhouse structural engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 7, 2026, the average yearly pay for greenhouse structural engineer in the United States is $99,400.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $80,000.00 and $113,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Greenhouse Structural Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Greenhouse Structural Engineer, you need a solid background in structural engineering principles, materials science, and typically a degree in civil or structural engineering. Familiarity with CAD software, structural analysis tools, and relevant building codes is essential, and certifications like Professional Engineer (PE) licensure are often required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication with project teams and clients are vital soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure the safe, efficient, and sustainable design of greenhouse structures that meet regulatory standards and client needs.

What does a Greenhouse Structural Engineer do?

A Greenhouse Structural Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and overseeing the construction of greenhouse structures. They ensure that greenhouses are safe, durable, and suitable for supporting environmental controls and plant growth. Their work involves selecting appropriate materials, considering climate factors, and complying with building codes and standards. Greenhouse Structural Engineers often collaborate with architects, horticulturalists, and contractors to optimize the structure for energy efficiency and crop production.

What engineering jobs pay $500,000?

Senior-level engineering roles such as petroleum engineers, aerospace engineers, and certain specialized software engineers can earn $500,000 or more annually, especially with bonuses, stock options, or in high-demand industries. Achieving this level typically requires extensive experience, advanced certifications, and working in high-paying sectors or leadership positions.

What are some common challenges faced by Greenhouse Structural Engineers when designing for different climates?

Greenhouse Structural Engineers often encounter challenges related to climate variability, such as designing structures that withstand heavy snow loads in colder regions or ensuring proper ventilation and shading in hotter climates. They must carefully select materials and structural systems that provide durability and cost-effectiveness while supporting optimal growing conditions. Collaboration with horticulturists, mechanical engineers, and clients is essential to tailor each greenhouse to specific environmental and operational requirements.

What is the difference between Greenhouse Structural Engineer vs Greenhouse Designer?

AspectGreenhouse Structural EngineerGreenhouse Designer
CredentialsEngineering degree, PE license often preferredDesign or architecture degree, certifications vary
Work EnvironmentEngineering firms, construction sites, project planningDesign studios, architectural firms, client meetings
Industry UsageFocuses on structural integrity and safetyFocuses on aesthetic and functional design

Greenhouse Structural Engineers primarily ensure the safety and stability of greenhouse structures through engineering analysis and calculations. In contrast, Greenhouse Designers focus on the aesthetic, layout, and functional aspects of greenhouse spaces. Both roles collaborate closely but serve different core functions within greenhouse projects.
