Job Description
Under the general supervision of Research Scientists, the Research Technician I provides technical support for research activities in the greenhouse. This position involves performing routine tasks related to greenhouse operation, plant care, experimental setup, data collection, and maintenance of research environments. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to assist with ongoing scientific studies.
This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.
This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities:
  • Facilitates or Handles the living germplasm collection, seedbank, and experimental field trails.
  • Collects samples and measurement data from experiments. Implements and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials.
  • Collects and compiles data. Computes, quantitates, and extends projections.
  • Assembles and operates technical equipment.
  • Assists senior staff members in conducting major field experiments and consults in developing procedures.
  • Assists student workers and support undergraduate and graduate research students in their assigned research projects.
  • Participates in college wide events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Other Requirements:
  • Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
  • Ability to exert heavy force.
  • Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS in Agriculture/ Biology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of plant taxonomy, nomenclature, plant care, propagation techniques, and horticultural research methods.
  • Ability to operate and maintain horticultural equipment.
  • Readiness to obtain a Texas pesticide applicator license if required.
