Greenhouse Research Assistant (Temporary)
Location: Nampa, ID
Pay Rate: $14.00-$18.00 per hour, based on experience
Schedule
• Required: Saturday and Sunday, 2-8 hours per day.
• Daily watering duties are typically from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
• Additional 1-3 weekdays (Monday-Friday) with flexible scheduling between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM.
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Greenhouse Research Assistant to support alfalfa breeding and greenhouse operations. This role involves working with delicate plant materials, maintaining greenhouse plants, collecting research data, and assisting with sample processing and facility upkeep.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with alfalfa breeding and crossing activities.
• Perform greenhouse plant care, including watering, staking, pruning, potting, seeding, and transplanting.
• Count plants and maintain accurate records.
• Support greenhouse cleaning and organization.
• Grind alfalfa samples and assist with quality sample collection in the field (seasonal).
• Follow established research protocols and safety procedures.
• Wear required PPE, including hearing protection, safety goggles, and dust masks when operating grinding equipment.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Biology coursework or agricultural experience is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately.
• Good hand-eye coordination and ability to work with small, fragile plant material.
• Basic computer skills and accurate record-keeping abilities.
• Strong listening skills and ability to work independently after training.
• Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
