POSITION SUMMARY

The Gardener will perform small-scale landscaping maintenance through soil preparation, planting, watering, weeding, and pruning activities.  This position will also perform grounds maintenance (grass cutting) as needed. Support the organization in its mission to help change lives through the power of work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Water trees, shrubs and landscaped areas by operating a water transport truck with pump as needed.
  2. Determine when to plant.  Order appropriate materials for landscaping projects.
  3. Prepare landscape area for planting by preparing soil through tilling and adding soil and amendments to soil.
  4. Plant trees, shrubs, and flowers/plants, and maintain through pruning, weeding, fertilizing, and mulching.
  5. Perform other grounds maintenance tasks such as trash/debris removal, grass cutting using push and riding mowers, etc.
  6. Clean and maintain all equipment used such as power pruners, chainsaws, and articulating hedgers, etc.
  7. Follow all established safety requirements while performing tasks.
  8. Provide excellent customer service by greeting, assisting, and responding to questions and/or concerns in a positive, professional, and friendly manner.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  2.   Experience: 6+ months of experience performing similar work. Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment such as push mowers, riding mowers and various power and hand held tools.
  3. Preferred: 1+ years of experience performing similar work.
  4.   Skills: Operation of mowers, utility vehicles, trucks with trailers, and landscaping power tools. Detailed and observant. Analyze, evaluate situations, and develop alternatives for conflict resolution
  5.   Knowledge: Basic landscaping maintenance such as soil amendments (fertilizers, mulch etc.), pruning techniques, plant identification etc. Environmental and safety procedures related to the job or equivalent combination of education, experience and/or military training.
  6. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  7. For positions that require driving, must maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage, and be able to travel as needed if you drive your vehicle during company business.
