WORK LOCATION: Ann Arbor, MI

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SALARY RANGE: The anticipated salary range for this role is $21 - $31 per hour. This range reflects a good faith estimate based on the targeted level for the role and typical compensation benchmarks across U.S. locations. Actual compensation may vary depending on the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, geographical location, and internal alignment.

SUMMARY

The CNC Technician fabricates and machines parts to support production and engineering uses a variety of machines and tools including an aluminum mill, high speed graphite mill, laser cutters, and bead blaster. This role also performs a variety of tasks/processes in the production of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) and supporting products.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.

  • Operates a 3-axis CNC mill to deliver parts to machine, quality and production specifications. Includes, zero start, tool change, loading and unloading, part washing and deburring QC and scrap reporting.
  • Provides standard mill preventative maintenance including cleaning chips from the mill after every use, cleans insulation from mill, changes filters and keeps fluids maintained. All done within manufacturer recommendations and records and maintains maintenance records.
  • Uses laser cutter including deburring and prepping sheet metal, delivers parts to machine, quality, and production specifications. Provides, documents and maintains maintenance records
  • Monitors and maintains inventory for machining tools and materials, communicates and prioritizes needs with production, engineering and supply chain
  • Monitors,maintains and keeps production kanban bins stocked so that parts are ready for production. Communicates with production supervisor and supply chain to define part priority
  • Keeps Mill room and materials in accordance with 5S and all applicable safety protocol
  • Performs drilling and tapping operations using fixtures and according to standard machining practices
  • Follows all safety protocols including the use of PPE
  • Records data as specified and does so with a high degree of accuracy
  • Keeps work area in accordance with 5S
  • Performs duties meeting quality, part and production specifications
  • Trained on and performs routinely up to three Standard Processes
  • Is a positive respectful team member that communicates & take direction constructively as required
  • Communicates issues or concerns effectively to maintain successful operations
  • Successfully exercises independent judgement within primary job functions
  • Being on time and present for work is critical in this position
  • Lifts up to 50lbs periodically
  • Sits, stands, squats, bends, walks, lifts, kneels, crawls, reaches and uses fine motor skills and vision in the performance of this role

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma
  • 1+ year operating a 3-axis mill
  • 3+ years working within a manufacturing setting
  • 2+ years working with quality control on parts produced
  • Experience working as part of a production team
  • Knowledge of machine tool safety
  • Shop Math
  • Able to read prints & mechanical drawings
  • Ability to troubleshoot
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Ability to adjust to changing circumstances
  • Professional and positive approach, self-motivated & directed, strong relationship building skills and a team player
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats, constructively assertive
  • Ability to read and follow technical instructions
  • Must be able to differentiate standard colors
  • High degree of manual dexterity and fine motor skills

Employees will use standard office equipment, including computers, and must demonstrate stamina to sit or stand while maintaining attention to detail despite potential interruptions. The role may require occasional activities such as walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and bending. Vision is necessary for reading printed materials and a computer screen, while hearing and speech are essential for effective communication both in person and over the telephone. Additionally, the position may necessitate travel by air or automobile. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coats, to ensure safety in the production environment. Employees may be able to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
