Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Viking Industrial Painting is a leader in water tank maintenance, repair, and coatings in the Midwest region and expanding across the United States, with project locations extending from Northern Minnesota to Southern Texas, Florida to California.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically minded Industrial Graphics Technician to support the layout, scaling, drafting, and production of large-scale logos, lettering, and stencils used on industrial water tank and infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will focus more on technical execution and drafting abilities with experience working in vector-based design software, large-format printing equipment, and scaled production layouts. This individual will work closely with our operations teams, project managers, and customers to develop production-ready graphics that can be accurately applied to large industrial structures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Technical Layout and Drafting:

  • Develop scaled layouts, dimensions, and positioning plans for logos, lettering, and graphics applied to water tanks and industrial structures.
  • Create and modify vector-based files for stencil production and large-format applications.
  • Utilize measurements, plot points, reference dimensions, and structural specifications to ensure accurate sizing and placement of graphics.
  • Interpret project drawings, customer specifications, and field measurements to prepare production-ready files.
  • Ensure graphics maintain proper proportions, readability, and alignment when scaled to oversized applications.
  • Prepare layout templates and stencil files for field installation teams.

Production and Equipment Operation:

  • Operate large-format printers, plotters, and stencil-cutting equipment.
  • Prepare files for printing, cutting, and production output.
  • Perform quality checks on printed graphics, stencil materials, and layout dimensions to ensure production accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot printing, plotting or file formatting issues as needed.
  • Manage material sizing, panel layouts, and alignment for oversized graphic applications.

Project Coordination and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with project managers, field crew, and customers to review project specifications and graphic requirements.
  • Communicate layout limitations, scaling considerations, and production timelines.
  • Support project planning discussions related to stencil installation methods and graphic placement on complex structures.
  • Maintain organized project files, revisions, and production documentation.
  • Assist Company Engineer and other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate’s degree or technical experience in drafting, design technology, engineering technology, or related field required.
  • Experience operating large-format printers, plotters, or CNC/stencil-cutting equipment required.
  • Experience working with vector-based software such as Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, or similar programs required.
  • Strong understanding of scaling, proportions, measurements, and production specifications for oversized applications.
  • Strong mathematical, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Combination of office, production/shop, and occasional field/project site environments.
  • May require standing for extended periods of time while operating printing or plotting equipment.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support project planning, field measurements, or installation coordination.
