Description

The Department of Graphic Communications in the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business at Clemson University is accepting applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant up to Clinical Associate Professor beginning August 15, 2026. The position is term-limited and renewable annually based on performance and funding. Summer teaching, professional engagement, or other compensated activities may be available depending on departmental needs and university policies.

This position teaches in-person undergraduate courses each semester (fall and spring). Courses emphasize experiential learning and hands-on projects, and courses may include industry partners.

The role contributes primarily to the Graphic Communications curriculum and supports applied interdisciplinary instruction, including courses or modules that connect brand strategy to the production and implementation of visual communication across print, packaging, and digital media. Faculty are expected to help evolve the curriculum in response to emerging industry practices and technologies.

Service to the department, the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business, and Clemson University is expected, along with ongoing industry engagement through professional participation, trade publications, or conference presentations.

Desired Expertise

The department is looking for candidates whose expertise connects communication, graphics, or design to real-world production and workflow environments.

Areas of particular interest include advanced print and packaging workflows; AI-assisted production systems and agentic tools that apply domain expertise to creation, approval, and quality decisions; technologies that support branded communication across physical and digital media; and workflow automation and the implementation of production technologies.

Candidates with experience applying computing, data, or intelligent systems to real-world production or packaging environments are encouraged to apply. So are candidates who can bridge creative intent with executable output, translating design concepts into deployable assets for print, packaging, retail, and cross-media applications.

Candidates from graphic design or communication backgrounds are welcome, provided they have relevant experience in production workflows, brand implementation, commercial production environments, or agency-based deployment of visual communication.

About the Department and University

The Graphic Communications program enrolls approximately 350 undergraduate majors and includes tenure-track faculty, clinical faculty, lecturers, and industry practitioners. The department also offers an experiential minor in Brand Communications through the Erwin Center, including a student-led brand consulting agency and industry-engaged instruction.

Our graduates enter careers spanning production management, quality systems, technical sales, applications engineering, packaging design, brand operations, and plant management at converters, CPG companies, equipment manufacturers, agencies, and technology providers. Our internship pipeline and industry network are among our strongest institutional assets.

Clemson University is a land-grant, competitive admissions institution with approximately 25,000 undergraduate students, ranked 29th among national public universities (U.S. News & World Report) and designated as a Carnegie R1 research university. Clemson sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains along the I-85 corridor between Atlanta and Charlotte, about 30 miles from Greenville, South Carolina.
