Job description

Unpaid Social Media Intern

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) isseekinga creative and motivated social media intern to join our marketing and communications team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public health communications while helping our community stay informed and engaged. The intern will work under the Marketing & Communications Specialist& Public Information Officerand develop digital content that promotes public health services throughouttheChampaign-Urbana area andChampaign County.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design engaging graphics and visual content for Facebook and Instagram using Canva and other design tools.

  • Write, schedule, and publish posts to CUPHD's official social media accountsin accordance withtheDistrict'scommunication guidelines.

  • Monitor and moderate social media accounts, responding to comments and messages ina timelyand professional manner.

  • Collaborate with multiple CUPHD divisions to gather information, highlight programs, and promote public health services and events.

  • Ensure all content isaccurate, on-brand, and consistent with public health messaging best practices.

  • Stay current with social media trends and recommend strategies to growauUndiencereach and engagement.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstratedproficiencyin Canva for creating social media graphics and visual content.

  • Strong written communication skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a professional environment.

  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).

Hours are flexible and will fall Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm with a minimum of 20 hours per week expected. This is an in-office position with the potential to be hybrid or fully remote.
