Job description

Utilize CAD and modeling programs to design and develop manual or automated machines and systems. Provide technical instruction to managers, supervisors, operators and other internal or external customers.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with internal or external customers to develop machine and system requirements.
  • Develops intermediate 2D drawings and 3D models of machines and or systems.
  • Integrates off the shelf hardware and software into machines and systems.
  • Contacts vendors and suppliers to specify hardware and software in support of machine and system designs.
  • Troubleshoots with suppliers and vendors on technical issues.
  • Provides training to internal or external customers on the operation of the equipment.
  • Assists in the creation of user manuals, maintenance documentation including preventive maintenance plan, recommended spare parts lists, equipment layout drawings, and final piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Reviews and approves on work instructions generated by others.
  • Operates manual mills and lathes adeptly.
  • Proficient use of hand tools to assemble, adjust, and maintain machines and systems designed.
  • Reads and lays out wiring or pneumatic diagrams.
  • Programs basic PLCs and simple robot tasks.
  • Performs weldment fabrication. MIG and TIG welding, cutting, machining, and grinding.
  • Diagnoses and repairs simple machine issues including failure mode analysis.
  • Designs simple tooling and fixturing.
  • Sets up and programs simple vision inspection systems with a basic knowledge of inspection tools and processes.
  • Understands part feeding and sorting for automation.
  • Ensures projects are completed in the time frame allotted.
  • Report immediately all suspicious and hazardous conditions to a supervisor.
  • Understand and observe all safety guidelines and assure quality and safety by complying with all appropriate CB policies and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining clean, orderly, and hazard-free work areas.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and be detail oriented.
  • Other duties as assigned.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Ability to communicate effectively via verbal and written forms.
  • Ability to maintain information and projects.
  • Have a good working knowledge of GD&T and drafting practices.
  • High skill level in CAD and modeling system software.
  • Able to work closely with fellow engineers, departments, and customers to obtain information and ensure drawing clarity.
  • Able to contribute to design reviews.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter, and be detail oriented.
  • Skilled in PC usage and associated software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to learn new graphic software to compliment the presentation of new designs.
  • Ability to write and read English.

LANGAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before employees and managers of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to interpret and apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • 4 years minimum experience.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree.
  • Knowledge of manual and automated equipment design.
