The City and Borough of Juneau is seeking an experienced, organized, and entrepreneurial Digital Content Specialist to join the Communications & Engagement team!
The successful applicant for this new position will develop and coordinate informative content creation across city departments, assist with deployment of new digital tools, lead email communication efforts, enhance the City's social media presence, and develop digital channels - including a new CBJ website - to enhance public outreach and participation. WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works (Monday through Friday) 8:00 am - 4:30 pm and may need to be available some evenings to document and support public meetings or events. Your office would be located in downtown Juneau in City Hall.
Typical Responsibilities
Under general direction from the Communications and Engagement Director, the Digital Content Specialist is responsible for creating, managing and optimizing dynamic, engaging and accessible digital multimedia content, such as graphics, video and interactive tools, that aligns with the City's priorities of transparency and accessibility. This role involves timely storytelling through video and social content, monitoring online engagement, and refining content strategies to enhance public outreach and participation. The Digital Content Specialist will be integral to the design, production and content management of a new CBJ website.
This position is responsible for coordinating and assembling the City's digital content pipeline, including social media content management, brand enforcement, email newsletter templates, and website news updates. As such, the Digital Content Specialist collaborates with city departments to ensure consistent messaging, branding and timely dissemination of important information. This role is key to fostering civic participation and enhancing the visibility and accessibility of city government through consistent, clear, engaging and inclusive communications.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communications, public relations, graphic design, or a related field; AND
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in digital engagement, communications, digital design, content production, social media management, marketing, or a related field. Project Management experience is highly desirable but is not required.
OR
Substitution: Four years of professional level experience in digital engagement, communications, graphic design, content production, social media management, marketing, or a related field may substitute for the required education and experience listed above. Project Management experience is highly desirable but is not required.
Additional requirements: Valid Driver's License.
