Job description

SummaryThe Student Language Lab Assistant supports the Language Lab Manager by providing language-learning assistance, basic technical support, and programmatic support for the Language Lab. This position assists students with oral and written assignments in Spanish, French, and other language courses, while helping integrate digital platforms, AI tools, and language-learning resources into student support and lab activities. The role also supports cultural programming, outreach, event logistics, social media promotion, and the development of accessible learning materials that enhance student engagement and language learning.Essential Functions
  • Provide tutoring support for oral and written language assignments, adapting assistance to students at varying proficiency levels in Spanish, French, and other language courses.
  • Assist students and faculty with AI tools, language-learning platforms, lab software, and digital resources, including basic troubleshooting and responsible technology use.
  • Support cultural and educational programming, including workshops, film screenings, roundtables, language games, brown-bag lunches, contests, and other language-related events.
  • Assist with event logistics, outreach, recruitment, and communications, including registration, attendance tracking, setup, social media content, and promotional activities.
  • Develop and maintain learning materials, tutorials, user guides, FAQs, promotional content, and AI-enhanced educational resources using basic graphic design and technology skills.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Foreign Languages, Linguistics, Humanities, or a related field; relevant language experience or formal education may substitute for some educational requirements.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish required; French or additional language proficiency preferred.
  • Knowledge of Spanish grammar, rhetoric, idioms, phonetics, and Hispanic cultures required.
  • Basic working knowledge of AI tools, language-learning platforms, digital resources, and responsible technology use in an educational setting.
  • Strong organizational, technical, graphic design, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support students, faculty, events, records, and program communications.
