Job description

LOCATION: 915 Gessner Rd, Suite 250 Houston, TX 77024 Some travel to nearby Gramercy location with doctor.
POSITION SUMMARY
Contributes to the organization by assisting with patient care during an eye exam. The Optometric performs basic, advanced and complex procedures in assisting the optometrist; all to be handled accurately, quickly and courteously.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform preliminary evaluation of patients prior to exam by the OD, such as dilation, topicals, autorefractions, etc.
Perform verbal interview with patient prior to visit with OD to determine medical issues and reasons for their visit
Provides support to the Optometrist to care for patients in a timely, effective manner, as closely to appointed schedule as possible
Assists Optometrist to care for patients in a timely, effective manner, as closely to appointed schedule as possible
Records and maintains patient records / files in compliance with company, federal, and state policies (HIPAA)
Respond to patient's telephone inquiries and voicemails regarding medication, treatment, problems referring to the Optometrist as necessary
Assist with the insertion and removal of contract lenses
Orders soft and hard contact trials for the Optometrist
Greet and direct all patients as they enter the facility.
Prepare, clean and maintain exam rooms; restock as needed.
Schedules follow-up appointments, verifies insurance for patient exam visits and verifies appointment times with patients.
Provide patient(s) with an explanation of insurance benefits as needed.
Schedule appointments
Order and check in on contacts
Verify and file insurance for contact purchases
All other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Must be able to push, pull, bend, twist, and reach. Use care and proper judgment when lifting or carrying items ensuring to utilize proper posture and body mechanics. Even though the weight lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
Classified as having occupational exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens.
