Job Summary
The Student Assistant will support the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Physics as a Research Assistant on the Savannah Campus beginning Fall 2026.
Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Employment is contingent upon funding.
Responsibilities

• Assists with laboratory and field research in environmental chemistry
• Prepares and analyzes environmental samples using standard laboratory methods
• Maintains accurate research records and organizes experimental data
• Assists with operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment after training
• Maintains laboratory safety, cleanliness, and inventory
• Attends research meetings

Shift Specifics

• Up to 15 hours per week
• Flexible with schedule of availability

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements

• Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education

• Undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, or a closely related field
• Completion of introductory laboratory coursework in chemistry or environmental science

Preferred Experience

• Previously laboratory experience in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
• Experience with sample preparation, laboratory instrumentation, and data analysis
• Experience working independently, maintaining accurate laboratory records, and collaborate effectively in a research team.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel and basic statistical or data analysis software
• Experience participating in field sampling and laboratory research activities

Proposed Salary
$15.00 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
