Career Services at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a position as a Graduate Assistant (CARS). The anticipated start date is August 17, 2026.
Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. This location provides opportunities for a wide-range of outdoor recreation activities. Additionally, Morehead State University is relatively close to a number of larger cities including Lexington, KY, Louisville, KY, and Cincinnati, OH. Morehead State University delivers a strong and affordable education for friendly, ambitious students who thrive in a student-focused learning environment defined by small class sizes and faculty committed to teaching and student success.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Administers and interprets career decision making assessments including personality, values and interest inventories. Meets individually with students to counsel on choosing a major and career choices within a major. Critiques resumes, cover letters and other documents used to market students for internships, jobs or graduate school. Presents to classes and organizations about Career Services, resumes, cover letters, interviewing, career opportunities, professional development, and career planning. Conducts career-related workshops on topics including resume writing, cover letters, networking, interviewing, salary negotiation, job search, etc. Conducts in-person practice interviews with students/alumni. Evaluates online mock interviews through mock interview software. Conducts research for student resources containing relevant career, job and internship information. Facilitates and maintains communication with students and faculty.
REQUIREMENTS: Must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher cumulative GPA each semester and maintain professional standards. Must be admitted to a graduate degree program OR be conditionally admitted to a degree program for one semester only. Must be enrolled in at least 9, but no more than 13 graduate hours. Must be able to work 20 hours per week.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer a graduate student in psychology, sociology, social work, education (vocational interest), criminology, or management major. Prefer a student who has had some psychology/counseling classes and works well with a diverse group. Must be dependable. Prefer a graduate student willing to stay for the duration of graduate school. Must sign a confidentiality statement.

The Graduate Assistant-Career Counselor reports to the Director of Career Services. It is required that she/he interact with administrators, faculty, staff, external employers/agencies, students, parents, and the general public on a daily basis.

Working Conditions
Routine office environment with regular interruptions and noise due to frequency of visitors, students, faculty, staff, and phone calls.
Career Services is a small office that must serve multiple customers simultaneously; teamwork and cooperation is vital.
