The Role


BGC is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist/Hydrogeological Engineer with a focus on numerical modelling to join our Groundwater Team. This is a leadership opportunity to support hydrogeological, geological and geotechnical studies related to water, primarily in the mining sector. The successful candidate will act as a technical lead, independently building and defending numerical models, mentoring junior staff, and contributing their expertise to help solve some of the most complex earth science challenges worldwide. This position offers a chance to deepen your technical expertise, shape a culture of mentorship and learning, and make a meaningful impact at a global scale.

Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with engineers and geoscientists on multi-disciplinary teams (hydrogeology, geology, geochemistry, mine waste, mine water, rock mechanics)
  • Lead hydrogeological site investigation and characterization (soil and rock core logging, groundwater sampling, hydraulic testing), conceptual hydrogeological model development, and reporting
  • Provide technical expertise in mining hydrogeology and mine water management across the mining life cycle (exploration, permitting, operations, and closure)
  • Regularly involved in the interpretation of data to develop conceptual hydrogeological models
  • Independently conceptualize, build, calibrate, and defend numerical groundwater flow model(s)
  • Script and automate modelling workflows (e.g., using Python) to enhance efficiency and reproducibility
  • Regularly lead report preparation and technical writing
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior to intermediate modellers and hydrogeologists; may act as a technical lead on projects
  • Regularly lead field work and coordinate simple to complex field projects; work with and manage contractor scope, budget, quality, and safety
  • Regularly participate in, and may lead, proposal preparation, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Regularly communicate independently with clients and participate in or present at client meetings for project management or business development
  • Regularly manage small to medium projects; occasionally manage large, complex, or multi-disciplinary projects
  • Assist with recruitment, career planning, and employee reviews
  • Champion a culture of technical excellence, mentorship, and collaboration
  • Regularly involved in health and safety planning


Required Education, Experience & Competencies


  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in geoscience, geological engineering, or a related discipline (graduate degree often held at this level)
  • Registered as a P.Eng. or P.Geo.
  • 6–15+ years of relevant professional experience, with a strong focus on 3D numerical modelling and technical leadership
  • Proficiency in scripting for modelling and data management
  • Demonstrated experience with groundwater and/or geotechnical modelling software (e.g., MODFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, FEFLOW, SEEP/W, Leapfrog)
  • Track record of mentoring junior and intermediate staff and acting as a technical lead or project manager
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills, including client-facing presentation of model results and uncertainty
  • Collaborative, self-motivated, and committed to a team-oriented environment
  • Willingness to travel and work in the field, including remote locations

Desired Education, Experience & Competencies


  • Experience in mining hydrogeology, including mine water management, mine waste, tailings, or mine closure studies across the mining life cycle
  • Experience developing client relationships and contributing to business development
  • Fluency in French (spoken and written)


Position Requirements


Drug & Alcohol Testing

This testing could be requested within an employee’s first week or in the future, as required. Driver’s License

BGC requires that employees have a valid driver's license, and that employees can drive a field pickup truck.  Upon hiring, BGC will require a driver’s abstract to allow for a safety review of your driving history.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $115,000 - $180,000 CAD per annum, however base pay will be commensurate with job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. BGC's compensation package also includes a discretionary bonus plan, training allowance, and comprehensive medical and dental plan.
