About This Opportunity

We are looking for a Software Analyst Intern to join our team for a 12-month internship at our Toronto office.

As a member of the Vital Software Engineering team supporting Hitachi Rail Canada, the successful candidate will work under the guidance of a senior software engineer to analyze and develop software, as well as support automation and testing activities using the infrastructure available within our organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understands and follows the company's processes and procedures for developing vital software for safety critical railways systems

  • Assist with software development and algorithm implementations for safety critical systems

  • Develop software tools and scripts that will enhance the actual CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment) by migrating the actual solution to the generic Hitachi Rail CI/CD pipeline solution

  • Develop fitness testing (Python, C, wiki) in the context of the CI/CD for the safety critical software based on software requirements

  • Document the software solution under wiki

  • Elaborate metrics and dashboard used to report to management

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university or college

  • Strong knowledge of Python, C/C++, Shell scripting, JSON, and Groovy

  • Experience working in a DevOps environment, including tools such as Git, Bitbucket, Jira, Jenkins, and Artifactory

  • Hands-on experience using GitHub Copilot

  • Highly adaptable with the ability to learn quickly

  • Self-driven, curious, and proactive mindset

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment

  • Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the agreed work term

  • Hybrid work arrangement: minimum of two days per week in the office; first month requires full-time onsite presence

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience of software development

  • Good organizational abilities

  • Able to quickly integrate with the team and work independently
