Job Type: Seasonal - work no more than 6 months

Job Summary
Responsible for assisting engineering staff in day to day tasks in platting, development, drainage, traffic and utilities work. Incumbent will be expected to perform a variety of office and field work necessary in supporting projects and activities as assigned.
Essential Functions
1. Collects and processes field data using Public Works GPS equipment and available in-office software.
2. Helps with updating ordinances and right of way permitting as needed.
3. Manages tasks and projects as assigned.
4. Addresses inconsistencies in data sets and brings them to the attention of senior staff.
5. Performs other duties as requested by Public Works staff.
6. Assists with onsite drainage calls and field inspections as required.
7. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
8. Regular and timely attendance in the office are required for this position.
9. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
Required Skills
-Must be a high school graduate and currently enrolled in an undergrad or graduate engineering program.
- Knowledge of basic civil engineering principals.
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft office software.
- Must be willing to learn project management software, if tasks require.
- Must have the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Must be a self-motivated, team-oriented individual with good time management skills and a desire to complete high quality work.
- Must make sound decisions using good judgment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must be pursuing an Associates or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.

This position requires general knowledge of computers, the Windows operating system, networking, and Windows Office products.
Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check. Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
