What is a graduate internship?

A graduate internship is a temporary, practical work experience opportunity offered to recent graduates or students who have completed their undergraduate or postgraduate studies. It allows individuals to gain hands-on experience in their chosen field, develop professional skills, and build a network of industry contacts. Graduate internships can last from a few months to a year and may lead to full-time job offers upon successful completion. Employers benefit by evaluating potential hires in a real-world setting, while interns gain valuable insights into their careers of interest.

How does a graduate internship typically support professional development and future career prospects?

A graduate internship provides hands-on experience in your field of study, allowing you to apply academic knowledge to real-world projects. Interns often work closely with experienced professionals, participate in team meetings, and contribute to meaningful assignments, which helps build practical skills and professional networks. These internships can also lead to full-time job offers or serve as strong references for future job applications, significantly enhancing your career trajectory. Additionally, you'll gain insight into workplace culture and industry expectations, making the transition from student to professional smoother.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a graduate intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Graduate Intern, you typically need a relevant academic background, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn. Familiarity with industry-specific software, productivity tools like Microsoft Office, and sometimes basic programming or data analysis tools can be advantageous. You'll learn about our complete sales process—from prospecting and pipeline management to assisting with closing deals and building lasting client relationships. Working alongside seasoned Producers, you'll develop your consultative selling skills while preparing to build your own book of business. With strong performance, you'll graduate from the program positioned to build your book, grow your income, and eventually become a shareholder in the agency.

If you're ready to invest 2-3 years building the foundation for a career with unlimited earning potential and a path to ownership, this is your opportunity.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes HubSpot CRM to manage pipeline activity of prospective clients, track sales interactions and document client communication.

  • Sets appointments for Senior Producers and personally meets with prospects and clients.

  • Engages the appropriate Ross & Yerger team members to offer the best customized solutions for each prospect.

  • Keeps up-to-date on prospects’ current issues and researches new information on prospects.

  • Learns how to ensure timeframes and deliverables are met in the sales process; and ensures that post-sale teams provide quality service to all assigned clients.

  • Take on special projects such as database creation, data mining, and report writing.

  • Attend regional conferences and user group meetings.

  • Entertain clients and prospects when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Relevant internship experience or b2b experience preferred, not required.

  • Demonstrates personal drive, coachability, curiosity, excellent communication skills, ability to build and maintain relationships, business acumen, strategic reasoning and a results-driven approach.

  • Ability to acquire appropriate designations in the prescribed amount of time.

  • Understanding of basic financial principles.

  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to travel, occasionally overnight.
