Role Summary

The Graduate Electrical Engineer builds the technical foundation of an electrical engineering career under the direction and mentoring of the Discipline Manager, Electrical Engineering, working on small projects or portions of larger projects. This role develops power, lighting, and system designs, learning to read and apply building codes, coordinate with other disciplines, and communicate design intent clearly. The right person here is curious, detail oriented, and eager to grow, bringing a genuine interest in how buildings perform and how they feel to the people who use them.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Design Excellence (Design + Sustainability)

●     Reads, understands, and correctly interprets Building Codes as well as other applicable reference materials in order to complete design tasks.

●     Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks on small projects or portions of larger projects.

●     Determines appropriate power, lighting, and system equipment in accordance with building codes, and designs building components.

●     Performs electrical capacity analysis using established methods and with the aid of computer analysis programs.

●     Designs components including power, lighting, grounding, telecommunications, fire alarm, and other systems per owner requirements.

●     Communicates electrical design through Building Information Modeling (REVIT), specifications, or sketches.

●     Prepares the appropriate written specification sections for bidding and construction documents.

●     Brings a genuine interest in pursuing highly sustainable and energy efficient projects and buildings to every design decision.

Productivity & Continuous Improvement (Productivity)

●     Actively participates in and pursues continuing education, including CEUs, Lunch & Learns, trade organization involvement, and independent study.

Client & Project Delivery (Client + Productivity)

●     Reviews contractor submittals (shop drawings, substitutions, etc.) to determine conformance with contract documents; makes appropriate comments and returns submittals as specified.

●     Actively participates in project meetings during design and construction activities; occasional travel involving day trips and overnight stays to out of town project locations is possible.

●     Assists other team members with project documentation, including reports of meeting notes, RFIs, and shop drawings.

Collaboration & Team Development (Employee)

●     Works under the direction and mentoring of the Discipline Manager and senior team members, building technical judgment with every assignment.

●     Operates in a cross functional capacity, supporting other production requirements as workflow demands change.

●     Actively supports the strategic goals of the firm, departments, and managers, and understands how personal contributions connect to them.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: BS or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution, Required

Licensure: Professional registration as an EIT prior to or within six months of employment, Required

Software: Knowledge of building analysis and design software for lighting and power calculations and distribution systems, such as Visual, Elum Tools, or SKM Power Tools, Required

Technical Proficiency: Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite; working knowledge of REVIT, Preferred

Sustainability: Genuine interest in pursuing highly sustainable and energy efficient projects and buildings, Preferred
