Job Summary
Under administrative direction from the Deputy Athletics Director for Internal Operations, the Compliance Coordinator will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Athletics Compliance Office. This position will serve as the designated Liasson for CARA and NCAA Eligibility Center and will assist the Associate Athletics Director with eligibility certification. The position will assist in other areas of NCAA compliance as delegated by the Deputy Athletic Director for Internal Operations as experience allows.
Job Description
  • Research and issue interpretations of NCAA and NEC rules and regulations for all sport coaches, as well as all student-athletes, Department of Athletics' administrators and staff, institutional administrators and staff, and boosters.
  • Assists throughout the initial-eligibility process for all incoming freshmen and transfer student-athletes. Serves as an institutional liaison to the NCAA Eligibility Center with Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.
  • Assists in the administering, educating, monitoring and enforcing institutional, conference, and NCAA compliance policies and procedures for all intercollegiate athletic teams.
  • Assists with the development of a comprehensive educational compliance program for all institutional coaches, student-athletes, faculty, and staff.
  • Monitors and approves efforts of the Compliance Office as it pertains to most aspects of Bylaws 13, 16, and 17, including but not limited to, declaration of all teams' playing and practice season submissions, vacation period and final exam notifications/reminders, participation logs, practice logs. Analyzes and applies NCAA, Conference, and campus regulations in a consistent and uniform manner.
  • Works collaboratively with other compliance staff and appropriate offices to facilitate and promote the Athletics Compliance program.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed by supervisor. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
  • Assists with preparation of various reports, waivers and appeals to appropriate governing bodies within the NCAA and Conference USA.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a sports related field
  • 1-2 years of experience in NCAA Collegiate Athletics on any divisional level (Internships and graduate assistantships will be considered as experience.)
  • Previous NCAA Division 1 experience in a compliance office setting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related field

  • Candidates must demonstrate interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies (individuals and corporate).
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving aptitude; ability to initiate appropriate action to resolve challenging issues.
  • Organizational and time management skills to effectively prioritize and manage projects.
  • Conscious customer service orientation; extensive working knowledge of NCAA regulations.
  • Experience effectively utilizing research or management software systems (e.g., NCAA Compliance Assistant and LSDBi, Banner).
  • Knowledge of and compliance with institutional, conference and NCAA rules, both those general in nature and those which apply specifically to their job responsibilities.
