Job Summary:
The College of Nursing is seeking an energetic faculty leader to serve as the Assistant Director of Clinical Simulation, a faculty administrative appointment. The ideal candidate would be qualified to hold a faculty appointment within the IRC-Clinical Series, Clinical Teaching Track with dedicated time for the Assistant Director of Clinical Simulation role. This position is responsible for the operational leadership, management, and continuous improvement of the College of Nursing Clinical Simulation Program across multiple campuses. This position oversees the daily operations of simulation facilities, personnel, technology, resources, and educational support services to ensure the delivery of high-quality, innovative, and evidence-based simulation experiences that support undergraduate and graduate nursing education.
Working under the general direction of the Assistant Dean of Clinical Simulation Science and in close operational collaboration with the Director of Clinical Simulation and Placements, the Assistant Director implements strategic initiatives, manages operational resources, supervises simulation personnel, supports faculty development, advances quality improvement efforts, and ensures compliance with national simulation standards, accreditation requirements, and university policies. The Assistant Director serves as an operational leader for the Clinical Simulation Program. simulation education resource, fostering innovation, operational excellence, and collaborative partnerships that advance the College's mission, vision, and strategic priorities for experiential learning.
This position is responsible for developing efficient operational systems, monitoring program performance, supporting budget and resource management, maintaining state-of-the-art simulation facilities and technologies, and promoting a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and exceptional service for faculty, students, staff, and external partners.
This position reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Clinical Simulation Science within the College of Nursing, Office of Academic Programs. The Assistant Director works in close operational collaboration with the Director of Clinical Simulation and Placements, who provides day-to-day operational coordination and direction. This position directly supervises the Healthcare Simulation Assistants and serves as a member of the Clinical Education and Placements leadership team.
Key responsibilities of the position include:
Program Leadership & Operations
Provides operational leadership for the College of Nursing Clinical Simulation Program across multiple campuses. Oversees simulation operations, personnel, facilities, technology, and resources to ensure high-quality, efficient, and consistent simulation experiences that support undergraduate and graduate curricula. Develops standardized operational processes, monitors program performance, and collaborates with faculty and leadership to optimize resources and support the College's strategic priorities.
Direct the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Simulation Program, including scheduling, facilities, technology, and operational resources.
Develop and maintain standardized operational workflows, policies, and procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality simulation services.
Monitor simulation utilization, operational performance, and resource allocation; implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Collaborate with faculty and leadership to align simulation operations with curricular priorities and institutional goals.
Personnel Leadership
Provides leadership and supervision of simulation personnel to foster a highly engaged, collaborative, and high-performing team. Oversees workforce planning, staff development, performance management, and employee engagement while promoting a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous learning.
Supervise Healthcare Simulation Assistants through recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, coaching, and performance evaluation.
Develop staffing plans and coordinate personnel assignments to ensure operational coverage across simulation locations.
Foster employee engagement, professional development, and a collaborative team environment.
Collaborate with leadership to anticipate workforce needs and support organizational growth.
Quality, Accreditation & Regulatory Oversight
Promotes excellence in simulation-based education through evidence-based practices, continuous quality improvement, and adherence to national standards. Ensures simulation activities meet accreditation, regulatory, and professional standards while supporting faculty development and program evaluation.
Ensure compliance with the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice, the Healthcare Simulationist Code of Ethics, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
Develop and evaluate simulation policies, quality assurance processes, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Analyze learner, faculty, and program evaluation data to guide operational and educational improvements.
Support accreditation activities through documentation, reporting, and regulatory review processes.
Faculty & Educational Partnerships
Collaborates with faculty to advance excellence in simulation-based education by providing consultation, mentorship, and educational support. Promotes evidence-based simulation methodologies while fostering faculty competency, innovation, and continuous professional development.
Mentor and consult with faculty on simulation design, facilitation, debriefing, and evaluation.
Develop faculty resources and lead professional development initiatives that enhance simulation competency.
Collaborate with academic leadership to integrate simulation strategically across undergraduate and graduate curricula.
Promote evidence-based simulation practices and educational innovation.
Technology, Facilities & Innovation
Provides operational leadership for the management and advancement of simulation facilities, technologies, and equipment. Ensures simulation environments remain operationally ready, technologically current, and aligned with educational priorities.
Oversee lifecycle management of simulation equipment, including inventory, maintenance, replacement planning, and capital equipment recommendations.
Collaborate with Information Technology, Facilities Management, vendors, and internal stakeholders to support simulation infrastructure.
Manage simulation facilities, technology systems, access permissions, and operational readiness across campuses.
Evaluate and implement emerging simulation technologies that enhance teaching, learning, and operational efficiency.
Strategic Planning & Program Development
Collaborates with the Director of Clinical Simulation and Placements to implement operational priorities and strategic initiatives established by the Assistant Dean of Clinical Simulation Science. Supports program growth through operational planning, performance monitoring, and continuous process improvement.
Implement strategic initiatives and operational priorities that support the College's mission, vision, and strategic plan.
Monitor operational metrics, simulation utilization, and program outcomes; provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
Prepare operational reports and dashboards to support data-informed decision-making.
Participate in strategic planning, committee work, and implementation of new programs, technologies, and educational initiatives.
Budget & Resource Stewardship
Provides stewardship of operational resources to ensure the sustainability, efficiency, and readiness of the Clinical Simulation Program. Collaborates with the Director to support budget planning, resource management, and fiscal accountability.
Assist in developing and monitoring annual operating and capital budgets for the Clinical Simulation Program.
Monitor expenditures and manage operational resources to ensure fiscal responsibility and efficient utilization.
Forecast equipment, technology, staffing, and supply needs to support current operations and future growth.
Recommend capital purchases and resource investments that support strategic priorities.
Teaching & Educational Support
Provides instructional leadership to ensure continuity, quality, and innovation in simulation-based education. Maintains simulation teaching expertise and provides instructional support as needed to ensure operational continuity and advance evidence-based experiential learning.
Provide simulation instruction and faculty coverage as operational needs require.
Support implementation of new simulation curricula, educational initiatives, and pilot programs.
Model best practices in simulation facilitation, debriefing, and learner assessment.
Maintain clinical and simulation expertise through ongoing professional development and scholarly engagement.

Work Location:
Hybrid - This position carries significant leadership and operational responsibilities that necessitate regular in-person presence and engagement onsite.
