Job description

Carthage College seeks a dynamic, energetic, and relationship-driven leader to serve as Head Men's Lacrosse Coach. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and development of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse program. The successful candidate will provide strategic vision for the program while fostering a culture of competitive excellence, academic achievement, leadership development, and sportsmanship.
The Head Coach will oversee all aspects of the program, including recruiting, coaching, student-athlete development, scheduling, budget management, alumni engagement, fundraising support, staff supervision, and compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations.
Responsibilities:
  • Program Leadership: Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Men's Lacrosse program. Establish and maintain a positive team culture that promotes academic, athletic, and personal development. Develop short- and long-term goals for sustained program success. Represent the program and College in a professional manner.
  • Coaching and Student Athlete Development: Plan and conduct practices, training sessions, team meetings, and competitions. Teach and develop sport-specific skills, strategies, and leadership qualities. Support student-athlete academic success, retention, and overall well-being. Promote sportsmanship, integrity, and personal accountability.
  • Recruiting: Identify, evaluate, and attract talented student-athletes who align with the academic and athletic standards of the college. Build and maintain strong relationships with high school and club coaches to identify prospective student-athletes. Work closely with Admissions and Enrollment leadership to establish and achieve annual recruiting goals. Maintain consistent communication with prospective student-athletes and families throughout the recruitment process. Ensure full compliance with NCAA Division III, conference and institutional rules and regulations.
  • Administration: Manage program budgets, coordinate team travel, and ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies. Schedule games, practices, and team events in collaboration with the athletic department. Maintain oversight and care for team equipment and facilities. Support fundraising activities and alumni engagement initiatives to support the program.
  • Staff Management: Hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches, graduate assistants and other support staff.
  • Alumni, Parent and Community Engagement: Cultivate positive relationships with alumni, parents, donors, and program supporters. Participate in fundraising initiatives and alumni engagement activities. Serve as an ambassador for the Men's Lacrosse program and Carthage College.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level. Will consider five or more years of coaching experience at the high school or club level.
  • Skills and Attributes: Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.Demonstrated commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes and the ability to work within the framework of an NCAA Division III program. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel extensively during recruiting and competition seasons. Demonstrated success in the recruitment and retention of student-athletes in a highly competitive environment. Valid driver's license and ability to be approved to operate College vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Master's degree
  • Experience: Demonstrated success building and sustaining competitive programs at the NCAA Division III level. Knowledge of NCAA Division III philosophy and regulations. Experience managing budgets and supervising staff. Ability to foster a positive team culture and promote sportsmanship.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to work in various indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
