PURPOSE:  The Assistant Coach assists with the athletic program of a specific sport.  The Assistant Coach plays a support role to the Head Coach. 
REPORTS TO:  The Athletic Coordinator, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the middle school principal/vice principal.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:  This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.  Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:

1. Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest traditions of public education and in support of the District's Mission.
2. Role model good sportsmanship, fair play and ethical conduct.
3. Role model and expect good conduct of coaches, players and managers under his/her direct jurisdiction and report serious misconduct to the Vice Principal or Principal.
4. Assume responsibility for the care and marking equipment, supplies and physical properties used by the participants in the particular activity and submitting an inventory at the close of the season.
5. Maintains effective working relationships with school personnel, students, and parents. Effectively works and communicates with students, parents, and staff from diverse cultures or backgrounds including those who speak limited or no English.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

1. Ability to willingly support and foster the mission of the Brookings Harbor School District
2. Ability to remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations
3. Ability to collaborate in a team environment
4. Ability to coordinate athletic registration for all sports during each sports season
5. Ability to manage building equipment and facilities
6. Ability to commit to an athletic program that fosters the self-worth and self-esteem of all participants
7. Ability to teach sports theory and technique
8. Ability to model good sportsmanship at all times
9. Ability to promote teamwork, fair play, and success
10. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and administration
11. Ability to communicate, implement, and uphold district athletic standards
12. Willingness to serve as building athletic budget coordinator
13. Willingness to participate in on-going district supported training activities
14. Working knowledge of specific sport fitness, safety methods, and techniques
15. High school diploma or equivalent required
16. Successful coaching experience in appropriate sport
17. Must have excellent moral character
18. Must have excellent organizational and motivational skills
19. Valid 1st Aid (completed within 60 days from date of hire and to be maintained for the duration of this job)
20. Type II Driver's License or willingness and ability to obtain (maintained for the duration of this job)
21. Successful Oregon State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
22. Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
23. I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
24. Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferred
25. Completion of all district-required trainings within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date  

 
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is typically performed outdoors or in a gymnasium; requires substantial extra-hours work, travel between sites, stamina and endurance, and physical exertion associated with demonstrating techniques; must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather; may be required to balance, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods; may be exposed to high noise levels and childhood diseases; and may experience a multitude of demands and changing priorities with frequent interruptions.
