Job description


Position Summary:
The Assistant Basketball Coach provides support in the operation of the College's basketball programs and is responsible for assisting with coaching duties at practices and games. The Assistant Basketball Coach is also responsible for supporting the Head Coach by performing daily program operations such as, but not limited to, recruiting, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, scheduling, managing travel and scholarships, and overseeing the discipline, conduct, and image of the student-athletes. Maintains qualifications for employment as described by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Policy Manual and accreditation standards. Follows rules and regulations as described by the TCSG Policy Manual and other policies and procedures established by the institution.
Major responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
ยงRecruit quality prospective student-athletes and ensure timely submission of their academic records for admissions.
ยงPlan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NJCAA and Conference regulations.
ยงDevelop and recommend game strategy.
ยงMonitor academic progress and status of student-athletes, implementing action plans through appropriate staff when needed.
ยงMonitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student-athletes both on and off the court to support the image and reputation of the athletics program and the College.
ยงCoordinate the planning of recruiting and team travel with athletics staff.
ยงAdhere to all Association, Conference, and College rules.
ยงOperate a CGTC vehicles, to include 15 passenger van, to safely and timely transport student- athletes locally and long distance.
ยงEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public
ยงPromote the athletics program and specific sport through community events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing.
ยงCompletes all assigned trainings in a timely manner;
ยงOther responsibilities as assigned.
Position Competencies:
ยงKnowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of basketball
ยงKnowledge of daily basketball operations and team management
ยงKnowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
ยงDecision making and problem solving skills
ยงSkill in interpersonal relations and conflict resolution
ยงAbility to effectively identify and resolve problems while maintaining confidentiality
ยงKnowledge of current and developing trends utilized for recruitment and gameday operations (video, data, and computing technologies).
ยงKnowledge of and skill in use of computers and software applications, specifically Microsoft Office
ยงAbility to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner
ยงAbility to stand for extended periods of time, lift moderate amounts of weight, and exercise motor skills
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Must upload transcripts/certifications which show conferred educational degrees/current certifications and document qualifications in the employment history:
โ€ข A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization from an institution accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education
OR
โ€ข Documented (2) years coaching and program specific skills substantiated by training and/or work experience
Preferred qualifications: Preference may be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, provide transcripts of conferred degrees and demonstrate in the employment history possession of one or more of the following:
ยงDocumented three (3) or more years of experience coaching intercollegiate basketball
ยงDocuemented CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within one month
ยงDocumented 7 year MVR and the ability to be insured to drive college vehicles
Benefits
Salary / benefits:
Hourly gross salary rate of $20.00 per hour. Part-time positions do not imply or suggest a continuance of employment or a promise of future full-time employment. CGTC is a member of Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRS) and Employees Retirement System of Georgia (ERS). Part-time positions are not eligible for TRS or ERS retirement benefits, state insurance, leave or holiday pay.
