General Summary:

The Estimating Manager is accountable for the overall performance, accuracy, and profitability of the estimating function, including win rates, margin performance, and bid strategy execution. The Estimating Manager will be the lead/supervisor for the Divisional Estimating Team. The Estimating Manager will report to the Director of Business Development.

Responsibilities:

  • Directly leads, develops, and manages the estimating team, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and ensuring team productivity and consistency.
  • Drives estimating strategy, bid selection, and risk evaluation, partnering with operations and executive leadership to influence which projects to pursue and how they are priced.
  • Perform all aspects of systems/low-voltage estimating including composing BOMs, performing takeoffs, inputting takeoff data, submitting RFIs, and writing proposals.
  • Assist the estimating team to coordinate and streamline the bid process on each individual project.
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
  • Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain tendering process and conduct negotiations.
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.
  • Review estimate with the Director of Business Development and project managers once contract is awarded.
  • Assist in creating budgets and schedule of values once project is awarded.

Position Requirements:

  • License: Valid state driver's license as required by job conditions or by the company.
  • Certification: Post-Secondary Certificate preferred.
  • Education: High School Graduate or GED. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of systems/low-voltage experience in industrial or commercial estimating required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a climate-controlled office environment with moderate to high levels of activity and deadlines.
  • Frequent use of computer, phone, and office equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
