Job description

Parks & Recreation 

Grading Supervisor 

Posting Expires: June 30, 2026

Salary: $65,650/annually 

General Description and Classification Standards: 

Maintains and makes improvements to the athletic fields and irrigated areas of the district properties. This position also oversees site preparation and construction-related tasks, including grading of parking lots and roadways using specialized heavy equipment. Responsibilities include demolition of park amenities such as playgrounds and other structures; hauling of materials including, but not limited to, crush and run, infield mix, sand, and heavy equipment; and vegetative management using a bush hog. May oversee volunteers, temporary or contract workers as needed.

Supervision Received: 

Works under direct supervision and follows standard procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.

  • Maintains turf areas of athletic fields or assigned areas; mowing, sodding, edging, overseeding, weed control, and irrigation.
  • Maintains infield surface; lip work, grading, conditioning, dragging, and raking. 
  • Maintains mounds and plate areas: minor sodding, building, grading, conditioning, and maintaining.
  • Maintains the warning track; grading, dragging, and weed control.
  • Performs preventative maintenance during inclement weather; tarping and field conditioning.
  • Maintains batting practice and game setup; screens, cages, turf armor, chalking, dragging, and irrigating.
  • Works directly with coaching staff for scheduling of workouts, etc.
  • Follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned task.
  • May oversee volunteers, temporary, or contract workers as needed.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities: This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully, it is not an exhaustive list.

  • Knowledge of turf maintenance methodology and practices.
  • Knowledge of landscape and water system design and operation.
  • Skill in the use and maintenance of graders, lawn care tools and equipment.
  • Skill in the use of computers and software relating to maintenance and inventory.
  • Ability to read and understand safety data sheets and administer lawn care chemicals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels, including a culturally diverse public, with a focus on quality service to internal and external customers.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education and Experience - 

High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

One (1) year of experience in turf and field maintenance. 

The role requires knowledge and operational skills in a variety of heavy equipment, including but not limited to: uni-loader, backhoe, rubber-tire loader, Dingo, tractors, bush hog, and aerator.

Licensures and Certifications - 

None required. 

Preferred Requirements -

High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and three (3) years of experience in turf and field maintenance. 

Lifting Requirements - 

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
