The Wethersfield Public Schools partner with the community and families in fostering our students' ongoing education in a safe and engaging learning environment. Hamer Elementary School is seeking a motivated and dedicated professional to serve as our Long-Term Substitute Grade 4 Teacher to fill an opening. The position is vital to our school as the staff member has regular and influential interaction with students, staff and parents/families. This role will be filled immediately.
Position: Long-Term Substitute Grade 4 Teacher
School: Hanmer Elementary School
Reports To: Building Principal
Start Date: 10/29/2026 (or earlier-TBD)
Salary: Bachelors Step 1 (per the WFT contract)
Duration: June 10, 2027 (end of the 2026-2027 school year)

The substitute Grade 4 Teacher will be responsible for all common teacher responsibilities, including but not limited to preparing and delivering lessons and ensuring students receive regular feedback and assessment.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree;
  • Appropriate CT Certification credentials are preferred, but not required;
  • Background, experience
  • Excellent oral communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills to interact with students, staff and parents;
  • Ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities and work independently and with a sense of urgency;
  • Excellent classroom management skills with both small and large groups;
  • Ability to handle and treat information confidentially
