Job Description
General Purpose of Job:
Operate Mammography equipment to produce diagnostic x-ray films as directed by physicians, and perform routine diagnostic procedures according to established standards and practices. Responsible for providing patient education and quality patient care.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
  • Prepare patient and adjust equipment for taking x-rays. Position and instruct patient regarding procedures. Lead protective devices will be used to protect parts of the body not in the central ray and to reduce exposure to radiation.
  • Use of immobilization devices in accordance with standard practice. (compression device).
  • Maintain registry and evidence of continuing education as required by MDPH and ACR.
  • Perform quality control and assurance reports as outlined in the State (MDPH) Mammography rules.
  • Process images and use proper identification techniques so as to assure proper labeling. Log patient technical factors and pertinent information in various computer data bases.
  • Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
  • Assist in care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies. Keep work areas clean and document daily logs.
  • Attend In-Service meetings and other meetings as required. Enhance professional growth through educational programs, conferences, workshops, etc.
  • Perform general diagnostic x-ray exams as needed/assigned.

Job Requirements
General Requirements
• Must be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiography and mammography. • Must be CPR certified. • Minimum of AHA Heart Saver certification or BLS required.
Work Experience
• Minimum two years radiography experience.
Education
• Associates Degree in Radiologic Sciences.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
• Ability to make independent judgments regarding breast tissue anatomy and technique. • Ability to work at multiple locations. • Adept at customer service. • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
