What is a GPU performance engineer?

A GPU Performance Engineer is a specialist who analyzes, optimizes, and improves the performance of graphics processing units (GPUs). They work on identifying bottlenecks, optimizing code, and ensuring that GPU hardware and software deliver maximum efficiency and speed. Their role may involve working with drivers, firmware, and applications to enhance graphics and compute workloads. This job is essential in industries like gaming, AI, and high-performance computing where GPU efficiency directly impacts user experience and system performance.

What are some common challenges faced by a GPU performance engineer when optimizing graphics workloads?

GPU Performance Engineers often encounter challenges such as identifying performance bottlenecks within complex graphics pipelines, balancing resource utilization, and achieving optimal frame rates across diverse hardware configurations. They must use specialized profiling tools and collaborate closely with developers, driver engineers, and QA teams to address issues like memory bandwidth limitations or shader inefficiencies. Staying updated with rapidly evolving GPU architectures and optimizing for both current and next-generation hardware are also key aspects of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GPU performance engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a GPU Performance Engineer, you need a strong background in computer architecture, programming (C/C++), and a degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. Proficiency with GPU profiling tools (e.g., NVIDIA Nsight, AMD Radeon GPU Profiler), performance analysis frameworks, and parallel computing libraries like CUDA or OpenCL is typically required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with developers and debugging performance bottlenecks. These skills and qualities are essential for optimizing GPU performance, ensuring efficient software-hardware interaction, and delivering high-quality graphics or compute solutions.

What is the difference between Gpu Performance Engineer vs Gpu Hardware Engineer?

We are currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of a Test Engineer for AI server repair.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and engineering support for automated and manual test processes used to diagnose, validate, and repair AI servers, GPU assemblies, server motherboards, power systems, networking equipment, storage systems, and other high-performance computing hardware.
  • Develop, implement, validate, and maintain automated test programs, diagnostic procedures, test scripts, fixtures, and test equipment used throughout the AI server repair process.
  • Own assigned test processes and serve as the technical subject matter expert for test capability, test coverage, equipment performance, and process effectiveness.
  • Partner with customers, Quality, and Operations to identify and resolve test-related issues.
  • Develop test strategies that improve defect detection, reduce false failures, increase first-pass yield, and reduce repair cycle time.
  • Analyze test results, failure data, and first-pass yield to identify test gaps, recurring failure modes, process variation, and opportunities for improved test coverage.
  • Configure, maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and support repair of test systems, fixtures, cables, probes, instrumentation, and other test equipment.
  • Support development and implementation of test fixtures, tooling, adapters, automated test equipment, and specialized diagnostic systems for new and existing AI server platforms.
  • Evaluate repeat-return and warranty data with Quality and Engineering teams to identify systemic test escapes, product defects, and opportunities for improved diagnostics.
  • Develop closed-loop feedback mechanisms to ensure test results and repair findings are incorporated into test programs, repair procedures, and technician training.
  • Implement Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies within test areas to improve workplace organization, equipment utilization, throughput, and process efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to Engineering Technicians, Repair Technicians, Test Operators, and trainers on test processes, troubleshooting methods, equipment operation, and new product requirements.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear procedures, training materials, and troubleshooting guides appropriate for technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Develop and present test performance reports, KPI dashboards, technical findings, and improvement recommendations to engineering, operations, quality, and customer leadership.
  • Support customer audits, engineering reviews, NPI activities, product transitions, and technical escalations.
  • Maintain accurate test data, engineering records, equipment documentation, and test-program revision control.
