Gpr Scanning information

What is GPR scanning?

GPR scanning, or Ground Penetrating Radar scanning, is a non-destructive testing method used to detect objects, changes in material, voids, and cracks beneath the surface of solid materials like soil, concrete, or asphalt. It uses radar pulses to create images of the subsurface, helping professionals locate utilities, rebar, post-tension cables, and other hidden features before drilling or cutting. This technology is commonly used in construction, engineering, and archaeology for safe and accurate subsurface investigations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) Scanning Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a GPR Scanning Technician, you need a strong understanding of subsurface mapping, data interpretation, and basic geophysics, often supported by a relevant technical diploma or field experience. Proficiency with GPR equipment, data analysis software, and sometimes certifications like OSHA safety training are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are vital soft skills in this role. These skills ensure accurate subsurface assessments, safe operations, and clear reporting for construction or engineering projects.

What is the difference between Gpr Scanning vs GPR Technician?

AspectGpr ScanningGPR Technician
CredentialsTraining in GPR technology, certifications varyOften requires GPR training, certifications preferred
Work EnvironmentFieldwork using GPR equipment, construction sites, utilitiesFieldwork and data analysis, similar environments
Industry UsageUsed for subsurface imaging, utility detectionOperates GPR equipment, conducts surveys
Search & ComparisonFocuses on applying GPR technologyFocuses on operating GPR equipment and data collection

Gpr Scanning involves the application of GPR technology to detect underground utilities and structures, often performed by specialists trained in GPR methods. GPR Technicians operate the equipment, perform surveys, and analyze data. While both roles require similar skills and work environments, Gpr Scanning emphasizes the application of GPR technology, whereas GPR Technicians focus on operating the equipment and data collection.

What are some common challenges faced by GPR scanning technicians during fieldwork, and how can they be addressed?

GPR scanning technicians often encounter challenges such as interpreting complex subsurface data, working in environments with high electromagnetic interference, and adapting to varying weather or ground conditions. Effective communication with project managers and site supervisors is crucial to clarify scanning objectives and constraints. Staying updated on equipment calibration, best practices, and safety protocols helps address these challenges and ensures accurate results. Collaboration with team members and ongoing training can further improve efficiency and problem-solving in the field.

We're looking for someone who understands the construction industry, enjoys building relationships with customers, and is motivated by winning work—not just preparing bids.

If you have experience estimating concrete drilling, utility locating, concrete scanning, demolition, drywall, or related construction trades, we want to hear from you.

Founded in 2008, Advanced G.P.R. Corporation is Arizona's leader in Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), utility locating, concrete scanning, concrete coring, leak detection, and specialty construction services. We support some of the largest commercial contractors, municipalities, data centers, hospitals, government agencies, and infrastructure projects throughout Arizona and beyond.

Our team uses advanced technology to help clients locate, inspect, and protect critical infrastructure while keeping projects safe, on schedule, and within budget.

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Competitive and driven to win work.
  • Hungry to learn and grow.
  • Professional and dependable.
  • Detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture.
  • Comfortable communicating with everyone from field superintendents to project executives.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment where every day is different.

  • Prepare accurate estimates and proposals for construction projects.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and customer requests.
  • Develop pricing for concrete scanning, utility locating, concrete coring, drilling, cutting, and specialty services.
  • Follow up on proposals and actively pursue awarded projects.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, project managers, estimators, and clients.
  • Coordinate with field operations to ensure accurate scope and pricing.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services and upselling.
  • Assist with contract reviews and scope clarification.
  • Maintain organized bid records and CRM updates.
  • Work closely with operations to ensure successful project execution.

Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of estimating experience in commercial construction.
  • Strong knowledge of one or more of the following:
    • Concrete coring and drilling
    • Utility locating
    • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) (preferred)
    • Concrete scanning
    • Drywall construction
    • General commercial construction
  • Ability to read construction plans and specifications.
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to win projects and grow sales.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficient with Apple products (Mac, iPhone, iPad) and comfortable using Google Workspace.
  • Experience with CRM software is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Existing relationships within the Arizona construction industry.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Procore, PlanHub, BuildingConnected, or similar estimating platforms.
  • Knowledge of subsurface utility engineering (SUE), nondestructive testing (NDT), or specialty construction services is a plus.

Benefits
  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Paid training and career development.
  • 401(k) after one year of employment.
  • Paid Time Off.
  • Please Note: Advanced G.P.R. Corporation does not currently offer medical insurance benefits.

If you're ready to join a growing company where your knowledge, initiative, and determination directly impact our success, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and help us build the future—one project at a time.
