ROLE AND PURPOSE
The Spanish Translator (Part-Time) supports the World Languages Department by translating curriculum, instructional resources, assessments, family communications, and district documents from English to Spanish. The position ensures that all translated materials are linguistically accurate, culturally responsive, educationally appropriate, and aligned with district curriculum and instructional standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Spanish, Translation, Linguistics, Communications, or a related field preferred.

Certification
  • Texas bilingual education or Spanish teaching certification or professional translation certification or coursework in translation preferred.

Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience translating educational materials, working as a bilingual educator, or serving in a related educational position.
  • Experience translating curriculum, instructional resources, assessments, or parent communications.
  • Experience working with emergent bilingual students and multilingual families in a public-school setting (preferred).

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
  • Demonstrates advanced proficiency in oral and written English and Spanish.
  • Demonstrates exceptional Spanish grammar, spelling, punctuation, and writing conventions.
  • Strong knowledge of educational terminology related to bilingual education, language acquisition, literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and other academic content areas.
  • Ability to produce translations that are linguistically accurate, culturally responsive, and appropriate for the intended audience.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional practices and curriculum design.
  • Ability to interpret and preserve the meaning, tone, and intent of original documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
  • Excellent proofreading and editing skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple translation projects while meeting established deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively with district staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and other digital collaboration tools.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff, and district information.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Translate curriculum documents, instructional materials, assessments, and educational resources from English to Spanish.
  • Translate family communications, newsletters, informational guides, handbooks, forms, and other district publications.
  • Review, edit, and proofread translated documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, clarity, and readability.
  • Ensure translated materials accurately reflect educational terminology while preserving the original meaning and intent.
  • Collaborate with World Languages staff, curriculum specialists, and district departments to clarify terminology and ensure translation accuracy.
  • Maintain consistency in district-approved terminology, formatting, and style across translated documents.
  • Prioritize and complete translation requests within established timelines.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a repository of standardized district translation terminology and templates.
  • Update and revise previously translated materials as curriculum and district resources are modified.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance the quality, accessibility, and cultural responsiveness of translated materials.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the World Languages Lead Specialist or Director of World Languages.

Part-Time/Temporary employees will be paid at the minimum hourly rate for the full-time equivalent position's pay range. Variations to this standard as a result of market availability of applicants for a particular position may vary with Human Resources advance review and approval.
