Job description

We are seeking a Senior QA Engineer to own quality for complex systems within our Tonic POS platform. This role is ideal for an experienced QA professional who can design comprehensive test strategies that prevent bugs in real-world conditions, build meaningful automated test suites, and influence Product and Engineering before development begins. You will ensure that quality is built in, not just tested after.

Company Overview

At VersiTech, we go beyond the traditional boundaries of a tech company to provide payment and point-of-sale technologies that help businesses increase their profitability, run efficiently, and grow with confidence. We are innovators at heart, problem-solvers in action, and growth partners in spirit. In every solution we create and every service we offer, our ethos is clear: technology should be advanced, accessible, and easy to use. We have a passion for delivering technology-focused products and services that are built on speed, affordability, and reliability so that every business we serve enjoys a consistent experience with a trusted ally. Our two product lines, BOLD Integrated Payments and Tonic POS Software can be deployed together for a unified end-to-end experience or used independently for maximum flexibility.

Listening first, building lasting relationships, and delivering measurable outcomes for our partners and merchants are central to how we operate as an organization.

Who We Are

We operate under a rapidly growing and widely accepted business philosophy called "EOS" (Entrepreneurial Operating System). In learning to utilize EOS, you will have the ability to drive growth and be an empowered decision maker, something that you can’t get in large, slow-moving organizations.

As we grow, we are intentional about protecting our small-company spirit: staying agile, taking ownership, and maintaining strong relationships. We strive to live our values every day and in every way. We believe culture is built through the habits we practice: Value + Habit = Culture, and we are looking for others who feel the same way:

  • We are ALL IN: We are committing wholeheartedly to a clear vision. Mission first and team always by: following through, owning outcomes, and finishing what we start for the success of ALL involved: our employees, our partners, our vendors, our communities, and our customers.
  • We DARE TO BE DIFFERENT: We embrace our entrepreneurial DNA and small-company spirit as we scale, taking responsibility as first movers, simplifying the complex, and maintaining a culture of fun and approachability while prioritizing our partners and team members first.
  • We are HUMAN: We are grounded in accountability and genuineness, we build strong relationships by listening to understand, communicating clearly, speaking truth with care, and respecting different perspectives with grace as we grow.
How will you make an impact in this role?

As Senior QA Engineer, you will be a quality leader on the team, defining how systems should be tested and ensuring testability is considered from the start. You understand risk areas like scale, edge cases, and integrations, and you know how to balance manual and automated testing to maximize coverage. Product and Engineering will look to you early in the development process to help shape solutions that are easier to test and more reliable in production.

You will report to our Quality Assurance Manager.

What will you be doing on a day-to-day basis? Test Strategy & Planning
  • Define comprehensive test strategies (manual + automation) for complex, multi-component systems
  • Identify risk areas including scale, edge cases, performance, and integration points
  • Determine the right balance of manual vs automated testing for different scenarios
  • Ensure testability by working with engineers on test hooks, logging, and observability
Automation Development & Maintenance
  • Build and maintain meaningful automated test suites that catch real regressions
  • Write automated tests at appropriate levels (UI, API, integration, unit as needed)
  • Ensure automation provides fast, reliable feedback without excessive maintenance burden
  • Mentor junior QA engineers on automation best practices and frameworks
Early Involvement & Influence
  • Influence Product and Engineering before build begins to improve testability and quality
  • Review requirements and designs to identify quality risks and testing challenges early
  • Ask clarifying questions that prevent issues from being built in the first place
  • Collaborate on acceptance criteria that make features easier to validate
Quality Leadership
  • Set the standard for test quality and thoroughness on the team
  • Ensure releases feel predictable rather than stressful through comprehensive testing
  • Drive down late-cycle and production bugs through better test coverage and risk analysis
  • Share knowledge and best practices with other QA engineers
You know you are successful when:
  • Fewer bugs are found late in the cycle or in production
  • Automation catches regressions before humans do
  • Engineers proactively involve you early in design
  • Releases feel predictable instead of stressful
Top Candidates will demonstrate the following: Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in software QA with strong manual and automated testing skills
  • Proven ability to design test strategies for complex systems that prevent real-world bugs
  • Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining automated test suites
  • Deep understanding of testing at multiple levels (UI, API, integration, performance)
  • Experience working with engineers to ensure testability and improve system design
  • Solid programming or scripting skills for test automation
  • Track record of identifying and preventing quality risks before they become production issues
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to influence Product and Engineering decisions
  • Experience with test management tools, automation frameworks, and CI/CD integration
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a remote/hybrid environment and mentor others
Preferred Qualifications
  • Deep hands-on experience with automation frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Appium, Pytest)
  • Experience with API testing and automation tools (Postman, REST Assured, or similar)
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into deployment workflows
  • Experience testing POS systems, retail applications, or complex SaaS platforms
  • Knowledge of SQL and database testing
  • Exposure to observability tools and production monitoring
  • Experience with Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python for test automation
Technical Environment
  • Applications: Front-of-house and back-of-house Tonic POS systems
  • Backend: Java/Spring Boot APIs, MySQL databases, distributed caching
  • Frontend: Angular applications, mobile applications, cross-platform frameworks
  • Automation: Playwright, Selenium, API testing frameworks, CI/CD integration
  • Tools: TestRail (or similar), Jira, Git, Jenkins, CloudWatch, performance testing tools

The hours of operation for this role will fall within 8 am – 6 pm EST.

This is a hybrid role with expectations of being in-office at our Sandy Springs headquarters 3 days per week with no expectations of travel.
