Job description

The Associate Data Analyst, People Analytics & Automation will be a key support member of the People Analytics function, focusing on the execution of foundational data analysis, reporting, and process automation tasks within the People department. This role directly contributes to data-driven decision-making and operational efficiency by assisting in transforming raw people data into preliminary insights and supporting the streamlining of administrative processes. This position reports directly to the Manager, People Analytics, Reporting & Automation.

This individual will begin to leverage data manipulation, business intelligence tools, and scripting concepts to support the People Department strategy. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, possesses strong foundational analytical and problem-solving skills, and is eager to collaborate across functions.

  • Build understanding and awareness of HR systems internal architecture.

  • Assist in maintaining data pipelines and transformations of raw data from various sources to create automated dashboards and reports.

  • Build and maintain HR analytics dashboards using BI tools (e.g., Looker) to track and measure departmental and organizational KPIs, such as turnover, retention, and service levels.

  • Prepare regular and ad-hoc reports and visualizations on key HR metrics, trends, and anomalies for internal stakeholders.

  • Support the design, development, testing, and documentation of simple HR automation projects to streamline processes and enhance efficiency across HR operations.

  • Work with the HR Technology team on automation projects as directed.

  • Assist in identifying opportunities for process optimization.

  • Support the creation and maintenance of journey mapping documentation for the end-user experience and the system process.

  • Implement the departmental reporting and analytics strategy and data management best practices by performing routine data audits and clean-ups, as well as the below.

  • Maintain current awareness of industry trends, techniques, and best practices in HR systems functionality and data management.

  • Act as a data consultant to other People Department teams as well as other departments to understand and translate business objectives and to highlight trends and insights.

  • Cross-train members of the department to be more data literate and self-sufficient in use of dashboards and analytical tools such as Looker, BigQuery, and Excel.

  • Assist with writing technical documentation, data contracts, and data dictionaries for the dashboards and reports supported by the function.

Required Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Information Technology, Statistics, or a related field. 0-2 years of related experience in HR operations, data analysis, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in retail management, continuous improvement, compliance, project management, or HR functional roles is a plus. Internal JD Group experience is always preferred.

Required Computer and/or Technical Skills

Experience with Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets formulas and at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, SQL). Basic experience with or exposure to BI tools such as Looker. Proficient in basic data analysis and reporting concepts. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Must be able to navigate and administer HRIS solutions, with Workday experience strongly preferred. Experience in automating processes through technology is a plus.
