Job description

Full-Stack Software Developer

Location: Sherbrooke
Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours)
Department: Operation - Engineering

About Us

At SBQuantum, we're redefining what's possible with quantum sensing. Our diamond-based quantum magnetometers unlock capabilities that conventional sensors simply cannot achieve, enabling applications ranging from GPS-denied navigation and public safety to aerospace and defense.

Building the world's most advanced sensors is only half the challenge. We're equally focused on developing complete systems that turn quantum measurements into practical capabilities that solve real-world problems.

Joining SBQuantum means transforming breakthrough technology into products that have never existed before. As part of a small, ambitious, and multidisciplinary team, you'll take ownership of meaningful technical challenges, collaborate with experts across physics, engineering, software, and product development, and see your work evolve from concept to deployment in demanding real-world environments.

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a proactive and driven individual with experience in startups or the inertial/magnetic navigation sector to help us strengthen our software capabilities and shape the future of our technology. If you thrive in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments and love working on hard problems with real-world impact, we'd love to meet you!

The Role

As a Full-Stack Software Developer, you'll develop the complete software ecosystem behind SBQuantum's products, from sensor communication and onboard data processing to customer-facing desktop, mobile, and cloud applications.

Working alongside product managers, data scientists, robotics engineers, and fellow software developers, you'll help build the next generation of intelligent sensing systems that transform cutting-edge quantum sensing technology into practical, real-world solutions.

You'll take ownership of major software components throughout their lifecycle. As part of a new product development effort, you'll have the opportunity to influence technical decisions and software architecture while helping define the foundation of products from prototype to deployment.

What You'll Do

  • Develop the complete software stack behind SBQuantum's products, from sensor communication and onboard processing to desktop, mobile, and cloud applications.
  • Design and implement robust, maintainable software architectures that support products from prototype to deployment.
  • Develop hardware communication layers, device drivers, communication protocols, APIs, and ROS nodes to interface with quantum sensors and onboard systems.
  • Build backend services and cloud infrastructure using Python and AWS.
  • Develop customer-facing applications for system configuration, diagnostics, visualization, mission planning, and data management.
  • Process, analyze, and visualize real-time sensor data from navigation and sensing systems.
  • Develop APIs and SDKs that enable customers to integrate SBQuantum products into their own software ecosystems.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, robotics engineers, firmware developers, and hardware engineers to deliver complete systems.
  • Participate in code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, and continuous improvement of our software development practices.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building production-quality software for 5+ years.
  • Professional experience developing applications in Python.
  • Experience designing modular, maintainable, and scalable software architectures.
  • Experience developing software that interfaces with hardware or embedded systems.
  • Experience processing or streaming real-time data.
  • Experience developing backend services, APIs, or distributed systems.
  • Experience with Rust, Julia or modern C++ is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, version control, automated testing, and software development best practices.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to take ownership of technical challenges from concept to deployment.
  • Proficiency in French and English

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience developing hybrid or cross-platform applications targeting Web, Mobile, and Desktop (e.g., Ionic, Quasar, Electron, React Native).
  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux, including CLI and system configuration.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services and modern software deployment practices.
  • Experience communicating with embedded devices over USB, Ethernet, CAN, Serial, or Bluetooth.
  • Experience with containers (Docker, Podman) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Workflows).
  • Experience with mapping, geospatial visualization, navigation systems, robotics, autonomous systems, or sensor fusion.
  • Familiarity with C and embedded software environments.
  • Experience developing software for aerospace, defense, or other mission-critical applications.
  • Previous startup experience.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to build cutting-edge technology while owning meaningful technical challenges from concept to deployment.
  • A collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where every contribution has a direct impact on the products we build.
  • Flexible work arrangements.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and continuous learning.
