Job description

A Construction Project Estimator is responsible for accurately predicting the costs of construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses, to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Overall, a Construction Project Estimator plays a critical role in budgeting, planning, and ensuring the financial success of construction projects, bridging the gap between design, execution, and cost management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing blueprints, plans, and specifications, including materials, labor, and equipment costs ().
  • Conduct quantity take-offs and gather data from vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to develop accurate project budgets ().
  • Consult with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to discuss estimates, resolve discrepancies, and adjust costs as needed ().
  • Assess cost-effectiveness of products, services, and project methods, tracking actual costs relative to estimates ().
  • Present estimates to management or clients for planning, budgeting, and decision-making purposes.
  • Monitor construction progress and update estimates to reflect changes in scope, materials, or labor.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings and site visits to ensure accurate understanding of project requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and techniques.
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office or Google Apps.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents ().
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills to interact effectively with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects within deadlines.
  • 3โ€“5 yearsโ€™ experience, including handsโ€‘on knowledge of residential, commercial, or civil projects.
