**Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician Apprentice

**

**PROGRAM OVERVIEW

**

This apprenticeship starts with 6 weeks of hands-on, in-person training at the Pro Services Academy in Portage, MI. Housing and per diem are provided during this initial training period. After completing this first phase, the apprentice returns to LaPorte, IN to work directly on the customer's maintenance team, applying what they learned and continuing to build skills on the job. The remaining coursework needed to complete the DOL apprenticeship and earn the journeyman certificate is scheduled at later dates over the rest of the 2-year program.

As an apprentice, you'll act as a technical representative for Pro Services at the customer site and will work alongside both customer maintenance staff and maintenance leadership. This role requires a strong focus on safety and quality, and the flexibility to adapt to a changing work schedule.

**APPRENTICESHIP STRUCTURE

**

• Part of a comprehensive, DOL-registered apprenticeship program designed to develop you into a well-rounded, multi-craft Industrial Maintenance Technician.

• Training combines formal classroom instruction with hands-on learning: 6 weeks at the Pro Services Academy in Portage, MI to start, with additional required coursework completed at later dates over the 2-year program.

• Upon successful completion of the full apprenticeship, you'll be awarded a U.S. Department of Labor Journeyman Certificate.

• Training builds toward all core areas of industrial maintenance: electrical systems, mechanical systems, hydraulics and pneumatics, and instrumentation & controls.

• Housing and per diem provided during the initial 6-week training period in Portage, MI.

**QUALIFICATIONS

**

• High school diploma or GED.

• 1–2 years of hands-on experience in an adjacent manufacturing or maintenance environment, OR formal schooling/training in an industrial maintenance-related field.

• Valid driver's license.

• Complete and pass a mechanical aptitude assessment.

• Willingness to travel to and temporarily relocate to Portage, MI for the initial 6-week training period (housing and per diem provided).

• Willingness to complete required coursework outside of scheduled class time as needed over the course of the 2-year apprenticeship.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

• Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and a demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining timeliness and accuracy.

• Willingness to learn and acquire new skills through hands-on training.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

• Reliable attendance and work ethic.

• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels, inside and outside the organization.

• Basic familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Google Suite; basic computer skills.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

**

• Follow all safety and company policies and actively participate in creating a safe work environment for yourself and others.

• Maintain a schedule of required coursework and report on-the-job training hours as required by the apprenticeship program.

• Perform and record routine preventive maintenance, startups, and installation of parts per equipment manuals, under the guidance of experienced technicians.

• Perform and record non-routine (break/fix) maintenance; troubleshoot, repair, and maintain customer equipment at a basic-to-intermediate level as skills develop, including dismantling machines to access components for troubleshooting and repair.

• Visually and audibly inspect machines and equipment to help diagnose and locate the cause of malfunctions.

• Learn to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and instrumentation/controls systems, progressing from basic to more advanced tasks as training continues.

• Act as a Pro Services representative at the customer site, working alongside customer maintenance staff and leadership.

**DAILY PHYSICAL DEMANDS

**

• Prolonged periods of standing and walking.

• Must be physically able to climb ladders, stairs, ramps, and scaffolds, and bend or crawl into awkward spaces.

• Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, squat, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.

• Use fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

• Must be able to visually inspect machines.

• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

• Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of the job site in all types of weather, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.

• Must be able to traverse wet, slippery, unsteady, irregular, narrow, vibrating, or moving surfaces.

• Site-specific physical and safety requirements may apply.

• Ability to wear job-specific PPE required.
