What is Google Analytics GA4?

Google Analytics GA4 (Google Analytics 4) is the latest version of Google's analytics platform, designed to help businesses measure traffic and engagement across their websites and apps. Unlike the previous Universal Analytics, GA4 provides improved tracking, enhanced privacy features, and more robust insights using machine learning. It enables event-based data collection, offering a more comprehensive view of the customer journey. GA4 is now the standard for new analytics properties and is recommended for anyone wanting to future-proof their analytics setup.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Google Analytics GA4 specialist?

To excel as a Google Analytics GA4 Specialist, you need a solid understanding of digital analytics, data interpretation, and web tracking, often supported by experience in marketing or data analysis and Google Analytics certification. Mastery of GA4โ€™s interface, event tracking setup, Google Tag Manager, and data visualization tools like Google Data Studio is essential. Strong problem-solving, communication, and attention to detail help you translate complex data into actionable insights for stakeholders. These skills ensure accurate data measurement and support strategic decision-making to boost business performance.

What are some common challenges when implementing Google Analytics GA4 in an organization, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge when implementing Google Analytics GA4 is ensuring accurate data migration from Universal Analytics, as GA4 uses a different data model. Teams often face difficulties configuring new event tracking and understanding the updated interface. To address these issues, it's important to plan the migration carefully, involve key stakeholders from marketing and development, and take advantage of Google's official resources and training. Collaborating closely with other departments ensures the tracking strategy aligns with business goals and minimizes data discrepancies during the transition.

Job description

At Paulsen, we don't just run campaigns - we move rural America. We're looking for a Digital Marketing Strategist who can take complex client goals and translate them into high-performing digital roadmaps. If you love digging into data to find the "why" and turning those insights into a clear action plan across search, paid media, and social, this role is for you.

You won't just be executing behind the scenes - you'll be an active architect of our clients' digital growth, collaborating closely with creative, account, and technology teams to keep our agriculture, energy, and rural lifestyle clients leading the charge online.

What We're Looking For
  • 3+ years of experience managing paid digital media campaigns, ideally across multiple client accounts simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of the media planning process.
  • Proven ability to look past vanity metrics and tie campaign performance to real business outcomes - leads, conversions, and customer acquisition
  • Deep hands-on experience with Google Ads, Meta Business Suite, Programmatic Ad Buying and Google Analytics (GA4)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations for clients and internal teams
  • Curious, proactive mindset with a genuine interest in emerging platforms, AI tools, and evolving digital trends
What You'll Do
  • Design comprehensive digital marketing strategies across SEM, paid social, programmatic, and email that align with client business objectives
  • Own campaign performance - dive deep into GA4 and platform dashboards to track results, measure ROI, and surface insights that shift strategy
  • Proactively monitor active media budgets and campaigns, making real-time adjustments to maximize efficiency and return on ad spend
  • Partner with the creative team to ensure ad copy, landing pages, and visual assets are built to convert - using data to inform creative direction
  • Work alongside account managers to translate digital performance into story-driven client reports with clear, actionable next steps
  • Stay ahead of platform updates, privacy changes, and emerging tools to keep Paulsen and our clients at the forefront of digital marketing
Technical Qualifications
  • Experience with SEM/Paid Search (Google Ads, Bing)
  • Experience with Paid Social (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Google Analytics (GA4) experience and certification(s)
  • Google Ads experience and certification(s)
  • Familiarity with media planning methodologies - budget allocation, audience strategy, channel mix
Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience with SEO tools such as SEMrush or Ahrefs
  • Familiarity with email marketing automation workflows
  • Experience in agribusiness, manufacturing, or rural lifestyle sectors
  • Experience with TapClicks, Google Looker Studio, or Campaign Manager 360
What Comes with the Job
  • Paid time off for vacations and illness
  • Competitive benefits package
  • Generous SEP contributions, quarterly bonuses, and monthly incentives
