PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provides assistance in the day-to-day duties of cashier or clerk for a Goodwill store. To fulfill Goodwill’s mission statement


SUPERVISION RECEIVED: District Manager, Store Manager, Asst. Store Manager & Team Leader

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION: No minimum qualifications set.


ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with individuals who have disabilities and or barriers to employment and participate in the achievement of their goals. Demonstrate a positive, role model. Display commitment and involvement towards Goodwill's mission.


JOB PROFICIENCIES: Teamwork, Accuracy, Customer Service, Quality, Fashion Sense, Ethics and Trust, Product Knowledge, Oral Communications, Safety and Security.


JOB COMPETENCIES: Sorts clothing and textiles items. Hangs clothing and puts out wares or other saleable items. Visually inspects clothing and performs stock rotation. Cleans store which includes wares shelves, floor, restrooms, etc. Responds to customer requests in person or on the phone. Assists with receiving donations. Operates cash registers, makes change and bags merchandise.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • To help keep the store clean and attractive.
  • To provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • To ring sales on the cash register, make correct change, and bag merchandise.
  • To change hanging merchandise as needed.
  • To pull merchandise as instructed.
  • To perform all administrative and record keeping duties as required in store manager’s and/or assistant manager’s absence, including but not limited to preparing store report, making daily deposit, maintaining employee purchase forms.
  • Sorts clothing and textiles items. Bends or stoops to reach into bags or boxes which are 48” to 6’ off the floor to remove individual textile items. Manually removes hangers, straight pins, labels from textiles items when required. Visually and tacitly inspects items. Judges whether or not item is salable using criteria established by company policy and procedure. Places unassailable items (salvage) into appropriate container which may be movable carts or plastic bags. Reaches into carts as deep as 36”. Lifts textile items as high as 48” onto table. Sort number and quality to textile items as specified by departmental procedure and policy.
  • Hangs clothing items as soon as quality has been established. Visually inspects item to determine appropriate type of hanger. Reaches with one arm to obtain correct plastic hanger between 9” and 15” long-which may or may not have metal clips. Places item on hanger as required by departmental procedure. Manually buttons, zips, or otherwise fastens item as appropriate, according to departmental procedure. Turns around to place hung item on rack approximately 60” high.
  • Visually inspects clothing racks on sales floor. Judges which racks are too full. Stands beside racks that are 50 to 60 inches long. Reaches with arms to remove clothing items on hangers that are soiled, torn, or unsaleable. Manually removes hangers from clothing items and places hanger into container which is approximately 12 to 24 inches from the floor. Stands in front of bin table which is approximately 40” high. Sorts through clothing items in carts, plastic bags, or other containers. Moves containers weighing as much as 25 pounds to salvage area as far as 75 feet.
  • Pushes rolling rack approximately 60” high and 72” long of hanging clothing items as far as 50 feet to sales floor. Reaches with arms to remove clothing items on appropriate racks on sales floor as determined by company policy and procedure.
  • Cleans wares shelves which are approximately 60” and, in sections, 4’ wide. Dusts shelves, manually removes broken, soiled, or otherwise unsaleable items and places in trash containers which may be barrels 36” high or boxes from 12 to 24 inches high. Moves containers to area designated for trash in the production which may be as far as 75 feet from the sales floor.
  • Reaches into carts or boxes 12 to 40 inches from the floor. Manually removes wares and electrical items weighing less than 1 to 15 pounds. Places item on shelves from floor level to 60” high. Places ties, belts, purses on specially designed fixtures according to departmental policy and procedure. Pushes empty carts back to production area as far as 75 feet from sales floor.
  • Answers telephone. Answers customer questions about basic store operations, such as hours open, merchandise available, but refers other requisitions to store manager.
  • Assists individuals making donations of a variety of miscellaneous items contained in bags, boxes, on hangers, or loose or donated as single items. Donations may weigh as little as one pound and up to more than 40 pounds. Accepts donations handed by donor or walks to donor’s vehicle and removes donations from vehicle.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To maintain helpful and courteous relations with all persons who come into the store and co-workers.
  • To be familiar with the merchandise and its location.
  • To maintain store goals as instructed by the store manager.
  • Observes company rules and regulations regarding cash handling procedures, check cashing procedures, employee purchases, etc. Observes safety and security precautions at all times in accordance with company rules and regulations.
  • Possess skills to sort, pair, and inspect shoes. Discard unrepairable or outdated shoes. May box shoes package for store delivery. Will need to stand or sit for extended periods of time while working with footwear. May need to carry loads up to 25 pounds. Must be able to count and keep simple records.
  • Follows all safety policies and fire prevention procedures.
  • Attend required meetings as required.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and reports violations.
  • Adhere to all ethical standards and confidentiality of records.
  • Responsible for safety and well-being of all employees.
  • Support mission statement and activities of other departments.
  • Support the accessibility of our services and facilities free of architectural, attitudinal, environmental, financial, communication, transportation, employment and other barriers to person with disabilities and barriers to employment.
