Job description

Role Location - Pequannock

Position Summary

The Key Holder supports the Store Manager in leading the daily operation of the store and serves as the Manager on Duty when assigned. This role helps deliver outstanding customer experience while ensuring the sales floor, production area, and store operations run efficiently.

As a Key Holder, you'll work alongside your team throughout the day—assisting customers, coaching associates, operating the register, merchandising the sales floor, and helping process donated merchandise. Success in this role comes from leading by example, staying organized, and adapting to the needs of the business.

 

What You'll Do

Lead Daily Store Operations

  • Serve as the Manager on Duty in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Support daily store operations and help ensure company standards are met.
  • Coach and support associates to deliver excellent customer service and achieve operational goals.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming store environment.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and other operational responsibilities.

Deliver Outstanding Customer Service

  • Greet and assist customers and donors in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Resolve customer concerns quickly and respectfully.
  • Promote the Goodwill Rewards program, Round Up donations, and Goodwill's mission.
  • Lead by example in creating a positive shopping experience for every customer.

Merchandise & Production

Goodwill is a thrift retailer, which means our inventory comes from community donations and changes every day. As a Key Holder, you'll support both the sales floor and production area by:

  • Sorting donated merchandise for quality and saleability.
  • Hanging, tagging, pricing, and stocking merchandise according to company standards.
  • Replenishing merchandise and maintaining organized displays throughout the day.
  • Moving clothing racks, donation carts, and merchandise between production and the sales floor.
  • Supporting daily production goals while maintaining quality and efficiency.

Cashiering

When assigned to the register, you'll:

  • Accurately process customer transactions.
  • Promote Goodwill Rewards enrollment and Round Up donations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized checkout area.
  • Provide a friendly and efficient checkout experience.

What We're Looking For

  • At least 1 year of retail supervisory or leadership experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to coach, motivate, and work collaboratively with others.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on retail environment.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Looking to possibly grow into leadership roles within Goodwill

Physical Requirements

This is an active retail position. Team Members spend most of their shift standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and moving merchandise. The role requires working in both customer-facing and production areas while handling clothing racks, donation carts, and other store materials.
