Job description

This position is responsible for the overall production and selling of goods in our retail stores.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Educate customers and the community about the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Demonstrate our core values through actions and words.
  • Meet donors with exceptional customer service, unload donations and safely place them in designated areas.
  • Sort, price, hang and tag or otherwise process donations as directed.
  • Place merchandise in appropriate categories on the sales floor.
  • Assist customers at the register in making their final purchase by accepting cash, credit or debit and offering accurate change back when needed. Request customers to Round Up.
  • Keep the sales floor, processing area, bathrooms and breakroom clean and safe.
  • Maintain quality, quantity, rotation and cleanliness.
  • Work a rotating schedule without conflict, including evenings and weekends. Clock in and out at appropriate times and allow a 1-hour prior notice of absence.
  • Follow safety policy and procedures at all times. Report to manager immediately any safety concerns.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

    Education and/or Experience

    High School diploma or GED.

    NOTE: Please ensure you have proof of your high school diploma or GED certification when you start working at GIET. If you don't have this documentation, please inform the HR office to confirm your enrollment in GED courses within two weeks. After letting HR know, you have one year from your start date to complete the courses and submit a copy of your certificate to this office. All Goodwill employees are allowed to attend these courses during work hours.

    Language Skills

    Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, consumers, customers, and the general public.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Computer Skills

    Basic computer skills and knowledge of operating a POS system.

    Other Skills and Abilities

    Bilingual skills a plus.
