Job description

Summary:

The driver is responsible for the safe operation of Goodwill vehicles used to pick up, transport, and deliver goods and confidential materials. This role supports Goodwill's mission by providing excellent customer service while ensuring compliance with all safety protocols, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations (where applicable), and agency policies.

This position is considered safety-sensitive.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Safely operate agency vehicles in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws.

Perform and document daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.

Immediately report vehicle defects, accidents, or safety concerns.

Load and unload trucks using proper equipment and safety techniques.

Secure loads to prevent shifting or damage during transport.

Follow assigned routes and delivery schedules.

Complete required paperwork and documentation accurately and on time.

Provide excellent customer service and represent Goodwill in a professional manner.

Educate customers and community members about Goodwill's mission.

Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Follow all agency safety policies and procedures.

Work in warehouse operations when not performing driving duties.

Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty to a satisfactory standard.

Required:

Ability to operate a box truck and forklift safely.

Minimum of one (1) year of box truck driving experience.

Successful completion of NAID certification for confidential document destruction upon hire and annually thereafter.

Valid Texas Driver's License (Class C).

Must maintain insurability under the Agency's insurance policy.

Must pass annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks.

Must not have disqualifying moving violations per Goodwill driving policy.

Ability to pass a DOT physical.

Ability to pass pre-employment background screening and drug screening, if applicable.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, and use hands.

Frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb.

Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more with assistance.

Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.

Work Environment

Regular exposure to warehouse conditions and moving mechanical parts.

Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.

Moderate noise level typical of warehouse and transportation environments.

Compliance & Safety

This position is designated as safety-sensitive.

Subject to applicable DOT regulations if operating vehicles meeting regulatory thresholds.

Subject to agency drug and alcohol policies where applicable.

Must comply with all Goodwill safety policies and defensive driving standards.

Use of handheld mobile devices while driving is prohibited except as allowed by law and agency policy.

Language Skills

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and have knowledge of proprietary software as needed.

Other Skills and Abilities

Bilingual skills a plus.
