Position Summary:
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides speech-language services to students with communication disorders in accordance with theIndividuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Texas Education Agency (TEA) regulations, and district policies. The SLP is responsible for assessment, eligibility determination, and the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to support students' access to the general curriculum within the least restrictive environment (LRE).
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Assessment & Evaluation
  • Conduct Full Individual and Initial Evaluations (FIIE) and reevaluations in accordance with TEA timelines and requirements
  • Utilize a variety of standardized and informal assessment tools to evaluate speech, language, voice, fluency, and pragmatic communication skills
  • Determine eligibility for speech impairment and/or related services under IDEA criteria
  • Prepare comprehensive evaluation reports that meet state and federal compliance standards
  • Participate as a multidisciplinary team member in evaluation processes
ARD/IEP Development & Compliance
  • Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee meetings as the speech-language representative
  • Develop measurable annual IEP goals aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and student needs
  • Provide Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP)
  • Recommend service delivery models, frequency, duration, and setting of services
  • Ensure all IEPs and documentation comply with IDEA, TEA, and district policies
  • Adhere to state timelines for evaluations, ARD meetings, and progress reporting
Therapy & Intervention
  • Provide direct and indirect speech-language therapy services in individual and group settings
  • Implement evidence-based interventions targeting articulation, language, fluency, voice, and social communication
  • Support student access to the general education curriculum and functional communication skills
  • Monitor student progress and update IEP goals and services as needed
Collaboration & Consultation
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and related service providers
  • Provide consultation and classroom-based strategies to support communication needs
  • Train staff and caregivers on communication supports, including AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) systems
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and needs
  • Participate in MTSS/RTI processes and campus-based problem-solving teams
Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including therapy logs, progress reports, and evaluation reports
  • Ensure compliance with Medicaid billing requirements (if applicable)
  • Maintain service logs and workload documentation in accordance with district expectations
  • Safeguard confidentiality of student records in compliance withFERPA
Program Support & Additional Duties
  • Support AAC evaluations, implementation, and device programming
  • Provide services for students with a wide range of disabilities, including autism and complex communication needs
  • Participate in professional development to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices
  • Supervise Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs), if applicable
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education
Qualifications:
Education:
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited program
Certification/Licensure:
  • Valid Texas license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) as a Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA preferred
Experience:
  • Previous experience in a school setting preferred
  • Experience with diverse student populations and disabilities, including AAC
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of IDEA, TEA regulations, and special education compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with ARD processes, FIIE procedures, and IEP development
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage caseloads and compliance timelines
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Working Conditions:
  • School-based setting (multiple campuses may be required)
  • Regular interaction with students, staff, and families
  • May require travel within the district

  • Adherence to TEA compliance standards and timelines
