The Stephens Family YMCA takes immense pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming facility for all who walk through our doors. We believe a well-maintained environment not only reflects our values but also supports the health, comfort, and overall experience of our members, guests, and staff. Every day, we strive to ensure that the Y remains a place our community can trust and feel proud to call their own.
We are looking for a Custodian to assist in the upkeep and appearance of our buildings and facilities. This position has a major role in the satisfaction of members and participants and their recruitment and retention in YMCA activities.
Qualifications
  • Good organizational skills and above average human relationship skills.
  • Must be able to physically meet the demands as outlined in this job description.
  • Previous cleaning experience preferred by not necessary.
  • Must have good problem solving skills and the ability to learn cleaning procedures in a short period of time.
  • Must have skill and maturity to work independently and/or with little supervision.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Be CPR/AED certified or obtain certification within 60 days of employment.

Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit and stoop, kneel or crouch while cleaning and maintaining facilities.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.

Responsibilities
Responsible for carrying out daily tasks, which include but are not limited to:
  • Vacuuming all carpeted areas
  • Cleaning fitness equipment
  • Dusting countertops, locker tops, window sills and soda machines
  • Washing floors in fitness areas, public restrooms, gym, offices, meeting/activity rooms and locker rooms
  • Restocking bathrooms and shower areas with adequate supply of paper towels, toilet paper and soap
  • Emptying all garbage cans throughout the facility
  • General cleaning and any other tasks that aid in the appearance of the facilities
  • Assist in implementing a plan for keeping floors (all surfaces) presentable at all times.
  • Responsible for washing windows and glass doors.
  • Responsible for maintaining all equipment at established level of cleanliness.
  • Responsible for cleaning the shower areas.
  • Responsible for monitoring inventory and notifying the Maintenance Director of needed supplies when necessary.
  • Responsible for communicating facility issues to Maintenance Director as soon as possible.
  • Responsible for all other duties deemed necessary for a job well done.
