Position Summary
Provides academic assistance to students in all academic areas and workshop facilitation as needed. Tutors work with TRIO Detroit Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search programs in Southwest and Northwest, Detroit within our target schools.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Completion of at least one year of college courses.
Demonstrated knowledge and competence in all subject matters.
Ability to explain concepts to others effectively.
Effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success.
Ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds.
Possess good organizational skills.
Exhibits patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
Prior teaching or tutoring experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
Reports to TRIO Staff on student progress.
Provides academic assistance to students, either in a group or individually.
Instructs on all academic areas such as math, reading, science to improve basic skills.
Assists students with SAT preparation.
Maintains records on each student who is being tutored, including follow-up.
Assists students in developing the study skills necessary for academic success.
Provides interventions to address observed barriers that may reduce the participant's chances of successfully completing the program or academics.
Utilizes a variety of teaching resources to develop program participants' knowledge of subject area.
Facilitates workshops as needed.
Performs other tasks as assigned.
