Description
As the first team member a guest encounters inside Eddie Merlot's, the Host is responsible for welcoming guests and offering superior hospitality to all visitors. The Host greets guests either in person or by phone to schedule reservations and assists guests as they enter the restaurant. Hosts are responsible for effectively coordinating and controlling the flow of guests at the front of the restaurant by greeting, seating, and acknowledging departures of guests. Hosts maintain their station in a clean and orderly manner and partner with Valets, Servers, and other team members to ensure that every guest experiences outstanding guest service.
Responsibilities
  • Complete and pass required training modules - both initial and ongoing.
  • Know your work schedule for the week, arrive at work on time, and meet standards for uniform and professional appearance.
  • Create a positive first impression of Eddie Merlot's. Exceed guest expectations at the front desk and waiting areas.
  • Check the reservation list and coordinate with Managers to anticipate guest flow, peak times, and duties associated with banquets or special events.
  • Obtain station assignments for Servers and Bussers from the manager.
  • Complete opening, side, and closing duties in a timely manner, according to established standards and procedures.
  • Assist Manager in planning reservations and assigning parties to appropriate tables and/or Servers.
  • Answer the phone in a timely, professional, and courteous manner. Correctly take, confirm, and document reservation.
  • Acknowledge and greet arriving guests; invite departing guests to return.
  • Assist guests with coat check on arrival and departure as needed.
  • Escort guests to assigned table; deliver and present menus.
  • Control the flow of business by practicing rotation seating, anticipating table turns, and following the reservation and seating plan.
  • Re-set tables in dining room and perform other dining room maintenance duties.
  • Accurately quote waiting times to guests and correctly maintain the 'waiting' list. Inform manager when waiting times are running over times quoted to guests.
  • Maintain the safety, cleanliness and organization of the host stand and lobby. Follow standard procedure for bathroom checks.
  • Assist with Platinum Club service and encourage membership.
  • May be scheduled to work meetings, banquets, and special events.
  • Communicate information regarding guest requests or complaints and ideas for improvement to Managers.
  • Support team members by willingly assisting as needed and perform other duties as assigned by Manager(s).
  • Follow Eddie Merlot's policies, procedures, standards, and performance expectations, as well as applicable laws and regulations related to liquor, food handling, sanitation, and safety at all times.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Meet state age requirement for the position.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must be able to read and communicate in English clearly and effectively.
  • Professional attire and appearance in keeping with Eddie Merlot's standards.
  • Must have professional communication and social skills appropriate for guests.
  • Must be self motivated and able to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Strong team-work orientation, well organized, able to take direction from others.
  • Basic math and computer skills required.
  • Able to work a flexible, part-time schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Lunch-time serving hours may be required for certain seasons, holidays, or special events. Work days and hours vary in accordance with business need.

  • Able to lift and carry 15 pounds on a regular basis.
