Job description

The Safety and Security Officer functions under the supervision of and in coordination with the Director of Security and Facilities. This position is responsible for protecting our premises, assets, guests, and staff. This position will maintain a high visibility presence and prevent all illegal or inappropriate actions. The goal is to detect, deter, observe, and report so that we create a safe, positive and memorable experience for each guest.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Protect company’s property and staff by maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  2. Ensure guest and staff safety and security by conducting careful entry screening and inspections. This will include the tactful messaging of prohibited items that cannot be allowed into the venue.
  3. Provide friendly and helpful guest service by assisting guests with inquiries, directions, and general event information.
  4. Assist with event setup, including the arrangement of equipment, signage, and other necessary materials, if needed.
  5. Assist in crowd management, including controlling entry and exit points and ensuring proper flow of attendees.
  6. Patrol the event venue and grounds and report any suspicious activities or incidents.
  7. Monitor the attendees and staff and provide a sense of protection.
  8. Monitors surveillance cameras, alarm systems and operates detecting/emergency equipment.
  9. Investigate disturbances and reports of suspicious activity on the property.
  10. Make regular reports and follow the instructions of supervisors.
  11. Assist guests with any special requests including ADA questions or accommodation.
  12. Escorts discharged staff, trespassers, unruly attendees, and other unwelcome parties off the premises, as needed.
  13. After business hours, checks doors, windows, and gates to ensure the property is secure.
  14. Perform first aid or CPR if required.
  15. Identifies and escalates security concerns to supervisor or nearest Law Enforcement Officer as needed.
  16. Contacts law enforcement or fire department in case of an emergency.
  17. Reasonably detains persons suspected of criminal activity until law enforcement arrives.
  18. Act lawfully in direct defense of life or property
  19. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  20. Adheres to all company policies and procedures as established in the Employee Policy Manual.

The above-listed duties are not all inclusive. This position is expected to perform other work-related duties as assigned even though they may not be considered primary duties.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • One to three years’ experience as a security guard or event security officer preferred.
  • Must have or be able to obtain TN Private Protective Services Unarmed Security Guard license.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Strong observational and problem-solving skills to identify and address potential security risks.
  3. Good judgment and decision-making skills.
  4. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  5. Good interpersonal skills with polite and courteous demeanor toward staff, guests, clients, and visitors to the property.
  6. Basic computer skills.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Strong command of the English language.
  9. Ability to read and write clearly and legibly in order to draft clear, thorough incident reports.
  10. Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations and handle challenging individuals.
  11. Reliable, responsible, and dependable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high energy, and physically demanding environment.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and reach for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching in narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.
  • Must be able to carry loads greater than 35 pounds and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently.
  • Will be required to use physical capabilities including climbing and ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps.
  • Able to hear sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Able to work in environment with moderate to high noise levels.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to work varied shifts, including evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
