Excavator Operator

Glass Roots Construction (GRC) is a first-class fiber optic utility construction firm founded by career telecom and construction professionals. We leverage the latest technologies and up-to-date construction practices to design and build high-performance networks that deliver fast, reliable connectivity for businesses, schools, and healthcare.

We are looking for skilled and experienced Excavator Operators who are local to the Portland, OR area to join our team on the ground floor! This position reports to the Construction Manager and represents an excellent opportunity to join an active, well-funded team, gain valuable experience, and advance your career as GRC grows.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to operate various types of heavy equipment, such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, compactors, articulated dump trucks, and/or front-end loaders
  • Ensures equipment is in good working order, at all times
  • Must possess skill, coordination, and awareness to operate heavy equipment in a safe manner with precision and efficiency
  • Willingness to operate heavy equipment for long periods with continuous attention to detail and safety
  • Maintain consistent communication among field crew members by use of hand signals or radio to align and position heavy equipment properly
  • Restores and/or landscapes disturbed areas of the job site
  • Responsible for the site set-up and clean-up
  • Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment on the truck
  • Will be involved in new site Job Safety Analysis - JSA prior to starting construction
  • Setting up safety perimeter using signage, cones, and safety barriers and at times flagging traffic
  • May be required to work overtime; after hours; on weekends, for emergencies, or be on-call as work is needed to ensure work is completed
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • We tend to stay local to Oregon, but we will move around the state
  • Some out of state work may take place

Required Qualifications

  • Excavator: 1 year
  • Experience: 1 year
  • Must Have Valid Driver's License
  • On-call and weekend availability
  • Travel is Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • FTTH, FTTX Experience
  • Class A CDL
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Understanding of basic utility construction processes and terminology a plus

Additional Information

Hourly Range: $24 - $28 Hourly, based on experience

Schedule: Day Shift: Monday - Friday & Night Shift: Sunday - Thursday

Travel Requirements: 100%

Role Openings: 3

Target Start Date: 2-3 weeks from offer
